"Cancer Sucks": man makes comic strip about his own cancer treatment

Am having fun exploring Bitstrips, a site that lets you create your own comic strips and cartoon characters.

On it, Dave Teetzel (or "Thag") created a comic strip series called "Cancer Sucks." He makes humor out of his frustrations, AFTER being diagnosed with cancer. His condition has recently grown worse.

Please send him your support! We are cheering you on, Dave! I will start posting your daily strips here.

Check back here if you want to follow his story. Please tell any cancer patients or family members you know about this cartoon. It may help them cope.

I really feel for him, since my favorite uncle died from kidney cancer a few years ago. My uncle's doctors completely rejected him for chemotherapy, since he was too far gone. :(

For a guy with a serious disease, I’ve had an encouraging few weeks.

Since I wrote about my cancer diagnosis, I have received many cards, gifts and e-mails - some from people I haven’t seen in years, others from people I have never met - encouraging me in my battle.

It has meant a lot to know there are people pulling for me and praying for me.

Aside from a few minor side effects, I have flourished on my medication. While I won’t know for sure if the drug is working until I have a CT scan next month, I have had very little pain over the past couple of weeks and my energy is much higher.

Those who have been with me since I was diagnosed in February say they see steady improvement and I certainly feel better.

Of course, one of the challenges I face is I’m off work on doctor’s orders and I need to keep my brain occupied.

I’ve filled that gap with Bitstrips, a website that lets you build your own comic strips, even if you have no talent for drawing.

I’ve built a semi-autobiographical series called Cancer Sucks, in which I try to find the humour in being poked, prodded, baffled by bureaucracy, puzzled by conflicting “natural miracle cures” and treated with kid gloves by everyone around me.

The strip developed a following and allowed me to connect with people who have similar medical stories all over North America. It’s fun and keeps me from screaming.

I want to thank all of you who have been so kind. By God’s grace, I will be back with you soon....
Here are all his latest strips from "Cancer Sucks." I will keep adding each new strip to this post, as Dave creates them:

...It keeps going. He adds a new strip almost daily. I will keep adding them to the end of this post.
