[When her communicator weakly groaned a cry for help, Lollipop didn't hesitate before letting loose her Grace. The feeling would quickly tell her where someone in need of aid might be, and though it hadn't been useful up until now, there was a chance she could get there in time to do something. An open window beckoned, and she landed inside the room easily. Supernatural balance came in handy.]

"Hello?"

[Her wings gave a ruffle as they folded closer to her body.]

The gunshot cut through the immediate area and reached Delta's ears. His goal of finding food and doing some exploration was cut short by that horrible noise. He swiveled towards the direction of the sound and raised up his rivet gun. The sound came from inside that house? He could have sworn it sounded like a pistol went off ( ... )

Hopefully Delta doesn't crack a shot off at the figure coming behind him. He'd heard the cry, and immediately started texting Claire* about where Alex might be, since he certainly couldn't text Alex and find that information out quickly. He wasn't that familiar with Alex; sure, he was Claire's (boyfriend? partner? what was the word he wanted here?) and they had the same shift for patrolling, but hadn't ever really ... sat down and had some sort of deep, engrossing conversation ( ... )

Ryu had been patrolling about from the air for half an hour at this point, when Alex's message came through to him. With a mighty flap of his wings, he attempted to rise higher and see if he or the killer could be spotted from the air. When the gunshot came, that made him move all the more frantically. Granted, firearms themselves still made him a bit jumpy, what with the only experience with them being Momo's bazooka.

It was by pure chance, then, that Ryu spotted Delta and Rion heading towards the source of the shot. Gliding in for a landing, he changed back once the drop was safe enough for him to make without harm, landing a fair distance from Rion and Delta before calling out to them. "You heard it too?" He asked, drawing his sword from the sheathe.

For a long time now, he had thought about Rei's killer. The possibility was incredibly slim, but it kept nagging at him from the back of his mind. Could it be the same one who did all this now? Ryu pondered this and kept his wits about him.

He heard footsteps behind him, and turned around to point the large gun in Rion's direction. His muscles tensed, but he didn't fire one of those nasty rivets in the other's path. Delta only attacked when he knew what he was attacking. The thing that ran towards him could be a person, for all he knew. He kept his muscles tensed regardless, finger still on the trigger as he approached. It was in times like these that he really wished he could vocalize other than various grunts and wails. He didn't blame people who viewed him as an animal at first. From a distance he sure seemed like a monster ( ... )

Vergil moved closer to Claire, for a better look at the situation, nose wrinkling at the smell of blood and death. Not his favorite scents in the world, but he was a big boy, and he would deal with them. Besides, it was far better to have an idea of what was going on for himself than relying on secondhand testimony.

But then there was the question of the killer's identity. Especially when Vergil capped eyes on the body for himself. A mask? Really? How cliche. How boring. How typical.

And his voice was snide when he finally spoke up. "Perhaps my knowledge of the protocol is a little rusty, but typically when the sheriff's posse rides in, they expect the evidence to not be tampered with."

She looked over her shoulder to Vergil as he spoke, but barely heard the words. Ryu's last sentence was too busy rolling around in her head to take anything else in. He was dead. Alex was dead. He was gone and she was too late to do anything about it.

And now, even as Delta moved the killer's body from the house, is was all she could do to keep from bursting into tears there and then.

But she had to know who it was. She had to make certain of the man's identity before she could force herself to go into the house and go over the fight. Right now, being Sheriff was last on her mind. This was far too personal.

Numb all over, she finally let go of the door frame and moved back to let Delta through. "Bastard.." Claire managed, the word quiet but sharp on her shaking breath.

Vergil wasn't quite so compliant. Not that it was especially shocking. Instead, he leaned further inward, for a better look at the surroundings. While he could understand Claire's own personal attachment with the situation, he was completely unaffected. Death happened. And you moved on. And really, that was all there was to it.

Which was why his voice held a somewhat sharp edge as he turned his attention fully to Claire. "Personal grievances aside, Sheriff, the killer's being toted off without being remotely identified. I'm sorry, but this has been far too annoying to simply let pass."

As if that didn't display a multitude of issues right there.

"Too many have died here. Shameful and ridiculous, to grow lax now." Here his attention turned outward, to the others present. "Really, is that it? The culmination of this entire thing? You simply cart the dead killer off and dust your hands off for a job well done? Sickening."

"W-what?" that got her attention, and reality came crashing back. "You think I'm letting go? You think this is over? That's my boyfriend in there!"

Pulling herself together, at least for the moment, she gave him a sour look and shook her head. "No. I need to know just as much as anyone else."

Thin lipped, Claire took a deep breath and made for the body as it was deposited on the ground.

'Please let it not be Tom' She wished, repeating it like a mantra as she walked.

But something told her she already knew who it was. Even though it was Tom's house, and he was no where to be seen, there still might have been a chance that it was someone else. The fact that body was wearing his mining suit... well that pretty much sealed the deal, didn't it. the only thing left was to take off the mask and make sure it was tom's body, and not someone else setting him up to take the fall.
