I'm sure many of you have been checking your LJ daily, waiting for the B-day bash post. And everyday you have maybe had to log off disappointed but knowing in your hearts that it was coming. Like Ralphie's decoder ring.
First let's talk movies. More specifically movies with turtles in them. If you haven't had a chance to see the new TMNT movie yet, I highly recommend it. If you are really worried about the movie not meeting your expectations, then watch the second TMNT movie The Secret of the Ooze, then go see the new one. You'll not be disappointed.
The new movie is amazing. Darker toned but still family friendly. Animation is really smooth, there were points were it was easy to forget it was a cartoon. Plus whenever they are on the rooftops (a good 80% of the movie) it's like they ripped panels straight from the graphic novels. If you are familiar with the graphic novels at all, you should recognize the giant red neon sign.
The plot was just right for a turtle movie, not big surprises but a few subtle twists that keep it going forward. The voice acting was probably the weakest link here. Mako as Splinter took some getting used to but ultimately he did a fine job. Also hearing Ziyi Zhang as Karai the new leader of the foot, was hard to understand at times. But ultimately they did not detract from the movie, and once you got used to it, everything was turtleriffic.
So I give it two thumbs up, I plan to see it a couple of more times on the big screen. Being the Uber turtle freak that I am, this movie was exactly what we needed. Since I doubt we will ever get the Turtles in their truest and rawest forms, I'll settle for the darker, more character driven show I got on with this movie.
Finally, R.I.P. Mako
After the movie, it was off to the Chuckster for pizza and fun! And both were had in abundance! I would love to name everyone that was there but I know I will leave someone out, and I would feel very bad about that. So a big thanks to everyone who made it out! I tend to care less about what I walk away with as much as I prefer just spending the time with so many of my friends.
Two tunnels crawls, and 6000 tickets later, we headed over to Denny's for the Banana-split cooldown. This is becoming one of my favorite parts of the night as it's really cool to look down the table and see folks just talking and laughing with each other. I hope I never loose my facination for seeing that and enjoying it.
My haul from Chuck E. Cheese this year consisted of:
One plane that propels palm sized discs into the air.
One Chucky plate setting, including fork, spoon, bowl, cup, and plate.
Scrapbooking materials
5 Tootsie Rolls
They seemed a bit lacking this year in really cool big prizes. Although several people tried to talk me into the Super Chucky costume, I resisted and went for the Plate setting instead. I'll probably get more use from the dinnerware. One look at me in the Super Chucky costume and Trianglegirl might rip it apart. Not in lust, but in the hopes I'll never wear it again. :)
For those not into novels here is the cliff notes:
Movie rocked, Chucky's was cool, Denny's was awesome.
Thanks again to everyone that made it out! Only one more year til we do it again :)
Love you all!
