Had he allowed himself to feel, Jay might have been angry, or sick, or guilty as he made his way downstairs, and none of those were conducive to what needed to be done. Ebony needed his help, Amber needed his help, and, if Bray had gone mad, the Mall might need his help as well. Emotions, therefore, were a luxury he simply couldn't afford to ( Read more... )

The walk back to her room had been short but it seemed to take forever, her thoughts miles away from her current surroundings. Ebony hadn't even noticed those she passed on her way there, and realized with mild interest that she was now sitting on the edge of her bed.

He hadn't been a hallucination, but he also hadn't been real. The fact that it was Bray who thought he was Zoot also didn't help matters, considering her past feelings for him. It just added more confusion to the mix. An irrational thought entered into Ebony's mind. What if it *had* been him? What would I have done? It more than slightly irritated Ebony that she couldn't answer her own questions ( ... )

Jay sized her up quickly as she approached him. She'd been sitting on the bed, alone, which could only mean she'd been lost in her thoughts-- never a good sign with Ebony. On the other hand, she looked all right as she walked towards him, and her voice seemed stable enough.

"Bray seems to have recovered from the shot quite nicely," he murmured dryly, glancing towards the hallway with a wry smile as another round of Zootisms echoed through the Mall. The key to Power and Chaos... Yes, he seemed to be doing just fine; Amber must have put the gun on a very, very low setting. The soft touch of Jay's fingers served to both comfort Ebony but also to bring her emotions back to the surface. Something she was actively trying to avoid. She shook her head once slightly. "I'm fine Jay," she said with a half smile. "Except that I'm half starved." In truth, the thought of food made Ebony's stomach turn, but that wasn't important at the moment. Maybe her appitite would pick up soon.

Another shout of "The Key to Power and Chaos is Devotion," echoed through to Ebony and she closed her eyes for a moment to set up a mental block against its attack. Lifting her arm to his and putting on a look of general emotional and mental togetherness. "Shall we?" she asked, turning in the direction of the stairs.

Ebony's words coincided with the sound of a pot being struck like an old-time dinner bell, and Jay couldn't hide a small smile at the way Amber bellowed for someone to come help move the furniture. The Eco had some spunk to her, Jay thought, amused, as he let Ebony take his arm and lead him upstairs. He had wanted to talk to Ved about Bray before supper, but it seemed that it would have to wait. Well, he reasoned, he'd seen to it that the man was chained up thoroughly; Bray wasn't going anywhere anytime soon, anyway. There was time.
