From the Carpark to the Market

Nov 29, 2003 19:52

As Mouse dragged May through the carpark she tried to look for clues on Salene's disappearance. Whoever it was that took her away had to climb stairs down to the main way. Were they really that busy when she had been kidnapped to not notice this? Mouse felt really bad. Would Salene be mad that no one had stopped the attacker? Would she feel ( Read more... )

May was glad that she had decided to wear her jacket that morning to keep warm, for she never would have had the chance to grab it with the rush Mouse was in. The abductors wouldn't have taken Salene towards the Market, the streets would have been too busy. So they would have gone around through the back alleys. But it was useless going there because no-one would have seen anything--atleast no-one would admit to it without being payed more than May had on her at present. "I suppose we can see if there are any new rumours floating around the Market. Though I figure they'll be full of the face off at the Mall between Moz and Amber. The problem is Mouse, that someone somewhere knows exactly what's going on, it's just trying to make contact with that person and seeing what they're asking price for the information is."
They walked along the streets that were indeed full of kids. Salene never had the chance to start that Entertainment idea we were working on, she thought, Look at these kids. Just wandering and spreading rumours. They need ( ... )

Mouse had hoped that May would want to go the back way so they could search better than in the middle of market, but May obviously had other plans. She followed her into Market listening to her talk. Did May think she was dumb? She knew how to make contacts and that things cost a price. She and Sammy had gotten the Mall the dishwasher afterall and they had made deals to get the computers and software they needed to play the game. But whatever...

She jumped at the stall owners words. How did he know that May had been a Blue? Or was May still playing the game somehow??? And he even recognised that she had been a Red. Mouse grabbed May's arm. "May. Let's get out of here. You know Salene doesn't like that!" What fight was he talking about?

May knocked a small trinket off the stand. "Sorry about that. Haven't been feeling well recently." She coughed and bent to pick it up. "Quiet, Mouse." She whispered. "This guy has info we need." She placed the useless trifle on the table again. "Have they moved the location again? I've been ill so I haven't been able to keep up."
"Of course. Can't have the law finding it. Everyone knows how the Mallrats feel about the Game. And the Mallrats are in charge these days. Of course Lex might be in if it meant a profit." He laughed. "You were one of the best of the Zappers when the Technos still controlled the Game. Have you still got the T-gun?"
He's got info on the weapons and location? May thought. This is better than I'd hoped! She tried to ignore how fidgety Mouse was getting.

Mouse made a face at May. Geez, she was bossy! Come on! How could she expect this guy to tell them anything when they were together. A Red and A Blue together? That was like...suspicious, wasn't it??? And she wasn't a Red anymore anyhow!

She took a step back away from May and the stall. The Owner was telling her something and she was just close enough to over hear. Something about a warehouse somewhere that held maps?? Maps to where? Maybe this Zapper and StingRay thing was a LOT bigger than they had originally thought. Maybe they were the ones who had taken Salene. Mouse frowned. There were too many people that could have taken Salene. This wasn't getting any easier.
