Mouse walked down the hallway to her room glancing back once to see if Ryan was really following. She entered her room and after removing her shoes and arm warmers bounced into bed pulling the covers up and resting her head on her pillows. "So do you know how to tuck a kid into bed?" She suddenly had a thought that he would have no idea. ( Read more... )

"Actually, yes I do." He thought of the many times he had tucked a child in over the past 2 years. And each one was different. Some wanted stories or songs. Some just wanted you to be in the room to say goodnight, or pull the covers up to their chin. He straightened a corner of her blanket. "Do you have a night light you leave on or anything like that?" He asked her glancing around the room.

"You have, huh?" Mouse wasn't sure whether to believe him or not, but the way he straightened her blanket was almost how Salene did each night so he had to have, right? "The light is over there." She pointed to a small light that looked like a candle. She yawned and pulled the covers up. "Ryan? Salene is going to be okay, right? The Chosen were really mean to her and Bray."

He went to turn on the light on the table. An electric light was certainly safer than the little candles he had left around the kids' rooms who needed lights in the night at his house. Some of them had been very afraid of the dark. "She's going to be fine, Mouse." He sat on the very edge of her bed. "I know they were bad to her. But Sal and Bray are strong, and they have their friends to help them." He certainly hoped it was true. Salene seemed to be recovering. But Bray? It might take more than the company of good friends to help him.

Mouse nodded. Salene was really strong. Bray she really didn't know, but if he was a tribal leader once you had to be, right? She yawned again. The little bit of reassurance was good enough for her. She rolled over and closed her eyes. "Night Ryan."
