The Cloud Room--morning

Mar 07, 2004 00:34

Ryan jerked awake, sitting up in bed so suddenly that for a long moment he had no idea where he was. What time was it? What was he hearing? Yelling? Were two of the kids having an arguement again? He shook his head, resting it in his hand a minute, trying to clear it. When he felt more awake he pushed the covers back. He was in the Cloud ( Read more... )

Salene slipped past the curtain of the Cloud Room from downstairs, looking at Ryan standing there staring at her clothes, what was he doing exactly? She shifted nervously on her feet, the cold hard floor against them, it felt dusty too. What should she say? This was awkward, why was it awkward? Salene felt that headache again and sighed, pressing her lips together and moving past Ryan to sit on the edge of the bed, rubbing at her neck again. He was cute standing there in just his pants, she'd stolen his shirt, and she looked up at him. "Hey," she said softly, "I'm sorry about that, the kids, they forgot how to play quietly I think, or maybe they thought we were all in party mode still," Salene chuckled softly and pulled Ryan's shirt over her head, handing it to him quietly before picking up her bra and beginning to put it back on. "I'm gonna go make breakfast before I head to bed, you want to help?"

"I don't think kids know how to play quietly." He chuckled, sitting next to her holding out her clothes to her. "I remember this one time...the kids were getting bored, so I decided to try and teach them how to play soccer. They loved it. Loved it so much that I woke up in the middle of the night to hear a game going on outside my window--with a full cheering squad." He smiled, looking far away. "I know I should have sent them to bed, but they were all so happy." He focused his eyes on her again. "Sure I'll help with breakfast." He took ahold of her hand. "But don't push yourself, Sal. You look like you could use some more rest." He leaned close kissing her tenderly. She did look tired, and not just a little irate.

Salene took her clothes from him and listened to him talk about playing soccer with his kids, setting her pants on the bed beside her as she pulled her shirt over her head. Kids, his kids, he sounded like he really cared about them, the way he talked about them, the look on his face, she could tell he missed them, but she couldn't bring herself to ask about them, about him staying here again and not going back. What if last night had just been, well, one night before he left again? What if Ryan was going to leave her again, all of that talk of love and marriage being just that, talk, but Ryan wasn't like that, he hadn't been in the past. Maybe Ryan had changed, however ( ... )

He could tell something was upsetting her, and whatever it was she wasn't telling him. It could be just a hangover from the night before...or maybe she was regretting what had happened between them. He wasn't sure what he would think if it was the latter, beyond blaming himself for it. He couldn't bear to think that that was what she was thinking. He put on a cheerful smile for her though, not wanting to see her more upset. It was early, there was time to talk. Right now something to eat might help her more than an attempt to find out what was bothering her. "Breakfast it is then."
