To the Cloud Room

Apr 18, 2004 05:27

Ryan came out of Mouse's room feeling homesick for his kids and house in the woods. He headed to the Cloud Room. During the day he had retrieved his duffel bag from the room downstairs and brought it to the room. He pulled out his black tank top and changed into it for the night. He sorted through what else he had thrown into the bag. Not much ( Read more... )

Salene paused in the doorway of the Cafe when she spotted Ryan leaving Mouse's room. She crossed her arms under her breasts and leaned against the wall there, watching him, smiling softly. What had he been doing in Mouse's room? Wasn't Mouse holding a grudge against Ryan for some reason, telling her what to do or something of that nature? She watched as he entered the Cloud Room, slipping past the curtain, before she straightened herself and continued walking. She adjusted her gray sweater around her, pulling it in a bit and crossing her arms again over her chest, her mind wandering. She really should check her office for things, but the closer she got to it, the more her head hurt and the less she really wanted to. She didn't even think about it as her feet detoured and turned the corner instead, but not towards her bed, towards Ryan's room. She fidgeted nervously as she walked, chewing on her bottom lip, her breathing increasing as she felt the nerves hit her. What was she so nervous about ( ... )

He looked up as Salene entered the room. "Yeah, everything's fine." He gave a small smile. "She needed someone to tuck her in, and I was lucky enough she asked me." He chuckled. "She wanted to know if I knew how to tuck a kid in." He put the shirt back into the bag. He wasn't even sure how it got in there. He didn't remember packing it, but he'd been in such a rush that day. And it wasn't as if he had a lot of shirts to his name. "Are you okay? Feeling any better after your nap?" He wondered if she had gotten anything to eat yet, and that made him remember the dishes in the sink he was supposed to have finished. He'd forgotten about them after making sure Mouse was alright.

Salene stood by the door, fidgeting, arms wrapped around herself, and she smiled, "Awww, that's so sweet," she said, glad that Mouse seemed to be warming up to Ryan now, this was good news. At least, warming up enough to get tucked in. Of course, this made her realize it was because Salene wasn't available, and she paused briefly to frown, feeling badly that she hadn't been there for her. "I'm glad she asked you to, that you could oblige," she added, smiling at him, grateful. "Oh, yeah, I'm better, I guess. Still tired, should probably get back to bed," she motioned at the space behind her, smiling tentatively, unsure of what to say next, cursing herself for being so insecure and unsure. "I'm sorry about my tone at lunch with you," she said quietly, "About the resting. You were right, I guess I did need some rest," she kind of rolled her eyes and looked a little shy. She cleared her throat and took a deep breath, "I heard Alice was back, have you heard?" Salene always felt like she was the last to know about everything going on in the ( ... )

"She's a great kid, Salene." He stood up, putting the bag on a chair and zipping it up, there wasn't enough in there to worry about unpacking just now. "And don't be too glad yet, I forgot to finish off tonight's dinner dishes." He replied in amusement ( ... )

Salene smiled, amused, "Mouse has her own room," she joked, laughing softly before getting serious, tilting her head and looking at him coyly. "I don't know what she'll think, Mouse is," she tried to find the right words, "She's really intelligent. She sees things you don't think she'd understand, and she always gets it on some level. Pride and I, we never moved in together, not really, but she understood, she thought, I don't know what she thought," she kind of frowned but quickly replaced it with a soft look. "Mouse and I have already talked. She knows that you and I were married, that I still kind of consider us so. Sammy," she looked away, he wasn't quite like a son, but she cared for him the same way she had for Patsy and Cloe, and he meant a lot to her ( ... )

Well, of course it was true that Mouse had her own room. That wasn't exactly what he was worried about. He had a feeling it was going to be tough for her seeing the two of them together. It was a delicate situation, and while he might not be able to control the outcome, he hoped Salene was right about it not hurting to see two people in a healthy relationship. In love.

"I don't know about the kids." he replied honestly. "They've never seen me in a relationship before. I don't know if the thought's ever crossed their minds before." He already knew Macy's reaction to it. But he didn't want to tell Salene about that yet. "Guess I'm going to find out. I'm sure they'll let me know their opinions fast enough." He laughed softly.

Salene swallowed hard, all of her insecurity over him having been with someone else, her questioning, he'd just cleared that up pretty much, and she felt a strange feeling, guilt mixed with relief. She shook it off quickly and smiled, did that mean he'd move in then? She was confused, but what else was new. "Well I don't want to freak them out or anything, cause any animosity or stress on them, if you think it's a bad idea then we don't have to," she decided, though she was going back on what she had said. It had to be about Ryan wanting to move in with Salene, and Salene wanting him to, not because of any other reason. Now she was being weak and insecure, that wasn't like her. Her hand still rested there on his inner thigh and she gave it a soft squeeze, looking him in the eye, she wanted to be with him always. "Mouse knows something is going on, there was that whole talk about "funny looks" at lunch, and she let you tuck her in, I really think she'll be ok. Sammy, well, he just looked up to Pride I think, he's had a bit of trouble ( ... )

"Not much can freak them out." Ryan replied softly. "They've been through alot." But then his being in a relationship would be something new to them. He'd just have to play it by ear and see what happened. He frowned a bit at hearing that Sammy had had problems with the Technos VR, and May could help? That didn't sound good. Macy had brought back a lot of information on the whole problem the city had had with the Game and Paradise. He'd forbidden any of them from touching it. And strangely enough even Macy seemed to have listened that time.

He brushed his hand gently across her cheek. Her touch on his thigh and knee bringing him back to the matter at hand and her previous question. How to answer it without being indelicate? He shook his head at his own ineptitude, pulling her near for another kiss. "I'll move in if you're sure." He whispered.
