So, I have a painting that has a tear in it and I have a buyer once the tear is fixed. I would like to sell it since it is 600.00 which I could really use the money. who can't use 600.00! I looked up the ojai Museum conservator and inquired about the cost to repair it. the one inch tear will cost 500.00 hahaha after shipping I would make about 40. ( Read more... )

It is better if the artist repairs the tear, actually. If they are living. What media is it? Canvas? I've done some small repairs to chihulys ...

I was going to suggest the same thing
give her a little discount for the repair?
instead of charging her another $500
hehe

it is better if you do the repair
i know its tempting to do the patch as small as possible
but a wider longer patch is stronger.

i'd also make a not that winding up the painting
is not recommending
though why in the world people want to roll em up
it doesn't make any sense to me.

sounds like a "mars retrograde' problem to me

Well I am not an actual expert, but I would put acid free linen tape on back and sort of seal crack w/ paint. And note the repair & date on back & the fact that you, the artist, did the repair.

Oh, I also worked w/ a professional restorer who used syringes to inject some sort of adhesives behind pigment coming off (peeling off) Masonite. I wish I knew what kind of adhesive he used!
