[nursing] aftermath of first night shift

Nov 02, 2016 16:16

Slept from 11 am to 2 pm today after pulling the first night shift. I don't feel amazing, but I feel rested enough. At least the first night wasn't crazy -- most of my patients went to bed after 10 pm meds and only one was febrile. I'm sure I'll have nights when it'll be a bit worse, but for a first night, that wasn't horrible.

I admire everyone who is doing night shifts, especially at a job like this! I'm almost dead if I even have to stay at work until 11 p.m. or so (yes, happens regularly because my boss is such a terrible slacker) because after a certain point my brain simply refuses to do anything more complicated than contemplating which ramen I'll have for dinner when I get home. I couldn't imagine working late or at night in such an environment with that kind of pressure and responsibility, not even on calm days. Kudos to you!

Thank you! It's taking a little adjustment (and maybe a little more coffee) but so far, so good. I think my bigger problem is figuring out the sleeping schedule on days when I'm not working.
