I pick out a lot of the media we try in my house. Books, films, TV shows. If I hear/read several people review something well, or any trustworthy someone (possibly on LJ, yes, possibly you) write a stunning review, I'll put it on my list of things to look around for and try. Do you mean the BBC miniseries North and South with Richard Armitage as Mr. Thornton? If so, yeah. That is just gorgeous. Also extremely romantic.

Hee, I was going to ask as well. That is such a great miniseries, and I totally agree about how awesome it is in all its parts! Plus, awesome story about labor unions. And love.

I wondered! Because when I hear "North & South" I think of the giant Civil War mini-series from the 80s, with Patrick Swayze and so on, and I don't think I had ever heard anyone gush over its cinematography or directing.

We have some friends -- and the wife half of the couple looks EXACTLY LIKE Merida's mom! EXACTLY! And DRESSES LIKE HER at cons, and has for years! Only with glasses. I was watching the whole thing and going, "...I have got to tell them about this."

Yeah, as someone who probably counts as a middle-aged mom, I thought Brave rocked. O;D

I bet your Merida look-alike friend will find out how she's been immortalized somehow.

The only other mom fight scene I remember was in The Incredibles. Stretchy Fighting Incredi-Mom was pretty amazing, too.
