Dog update.

The Animal Control Officer who came last night was incorrect on some info. He said photographing the dog on our property was not enough, would not incur a fine for them, and that we had to catch it. He *recommended* us trying to catch it ourselves with treats and a leash. (This seemed a bad plan to me, but if it was the only solution... *shrugs ( Read more... )

I want to see the dog trap now. Preferably with the dog in it. Sorry to hear about your second girl, what a rubbish end to the year. I hope 2013 is dog-free for you. My girls free-range around our garden, terrorising the cat and eating all my plants, but fortunately our six foot fence deters all dogs and foxes so far.

Photo of the dog trap is now up on this post. I, too, so wish to see it full of dog. I would love a fence but so much of our property would require fencing straight up a 45 degree angled slope that it would be a nightmare.

How recently did these neighbors move in? Although I'd think no matter how recent you've moved to a place, you don't let your pets wander free if you're not familiar with the territory and the pets can do serious damage if they attack someone.

The bottom-diagonal-left neighbors and the dogs have been there for 3 years. It's just that now the dogs know what the clucky noises mean, that our chickens are up here and what they taste like. The people built a tall backyard fence early on, but either the dogs seem to have learned how to escape or the people are intentionally letting them run around. The dogs seem to exit their property from their front yard, enter the front yard of our bottom-right-below neighbors, run up the hill through the bottom-right-below neighbors' yard, and enter our yard through assorted places.

Huh. Then I hope they're just not aware their dogs are escaping their property, because I don't care how well-trained a dog is, letting them run loose is a recipe for disaster. (Usually for the dog, unfortunately.)

I'm glad you have a good dog ranger. Loose dogs in farm country are a menace. I hope you can get it resolved -- escalating fines sounds like a great idea.
