ah yes. it does appear that Willie Wonka copied Doctor Who.

It would be pretty prescient of Dahl, since Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was published in 1964 and Doctor Who had only begun in 1963.

Later though, he takes the elevator for an adventure fighting malicious aliens on a space station, and that's a little more suspicious.
