Pirate's Swoop, Tortall - Thursday

Nov 25, 2009 14:54

This day wasn't anything special in the rest of Tortall, but at Pirate's Swoop, the table was loaded with the fruits of the harvest and the guests had arrived for a Thanksgiving Feast.

It was just another indication of what happens when you make a crazy outsider like Charles Kawalsky a Baron all those years ago.

The good kind of crazy if you asked Cam. There was always plenty of food and it reminded him of any sort of activity at Fandom. If you asked him, it was a good tradition that let you fill up a plate and eat way, way too much.

Of course, there'd been a crisis and he'd almost thought they might not make it. The SGC had its own traditions after all, but they had Sam and she could kick crisis' ass.

So despite the universe's best attempts, Cameron was going to be eating a lot. And say thanks. For a lot of things. For good company most of all.

"How many years has it been?" Sam asked, following him into the room and grumbling, much as she had the rest of the way down the hall from their room. "All I'm saying is I should be allowed to bring a pie or something."

No, she really shouldn't. Besides, there were professional servants in Tortall who did that kind of thing.

Sam brushed a hand through her not-at-all-gray-really hair and smiled up at her husband, "I'm glad we made it, though. Nothing like a little pre-holiday SGC mess to really get the appetite going. Besides, it feels like forever since we've been here, and I miss Aly and Alan and Thom. Oh, and Alanna and the Baron, of course."

She still got a big charge out of teasing the Baron, yes.

"Sam, if we let you bring a pie, we're all going to spend Thanksgiving singing pirate songs," Cameron chuckled. He liked the not-at-all-gray-really. Personally, he was glad he still had hair. Good Mitchell genes.

"But it is good to be back. Even if it doesn't feel like another year," he shook his head. "Just don't blow up a tower or something." Kawalsky and Sam together was dangerous, but those kids definitely took after their father when it came to mischief.

"It's not like you sang," she muttered under her breath near him. "And I didn't bring any explosives with me. It's a holiday, remember?"

Aly was enjoying herself. There was food that Aunt Sam hadn't made, people she loved and possible explosions of awesome.

She wasn't arguing at all.

Down the stairs the Baron clomped and into the room he came. "Tortall needs more holidays based on food," Charlie declared rather than the saying hello.

"You could start some, but then you'd have to get all your clothes let out," Aly said innocently.

Kawalsky adjusted his belt, which was doing a good job containing his belly thank you very much, and looked around the room. "Jon forbade me to make any more holidays," he said in a low voice. "In case it catches on."

"Aww, the perils of a liege lord," she teased, smirking at the belt adjusting. "Poor Da, subject to Uncle Jon's silly whims about holidays. Maybe I should start one instead."

Roy was... not wary, but cautious. Not that he needed to be, but relaxed was not a mood that was close right now. He had the distinct feeling he was going to get pranked eventually. Which was either because they would, or because they wanted him to think they would. Aly was the only daughter after all. And if they didn't, Lianna was more than capable.

He knew he was just going crazy now. He should have passed this whole stage when he wasn't... 29, but he somehow had skipped it all and now he was enjoying a cup of wine and some delicious food. No nerves to be detected anywhere. Really.

"You're looking nervous" Aly said innocently as she found herself near him.

"Am not," he argued quickly. "I'm a General. We're nothing but cool and collected."

He'd be a bit more cool and collected if she stayed near him, too.

She laughed and patted his shoulder. "Keep talking, General."
