16: If you could change one moment in your past, what would it be?
You’d figure with everything that’s gone on in my life I’d have a really hard narrowing things down to just one event I’d like to change but end of the day it’s real easy.
If I could and I had the chance I’d change the day Keith died but if I was to go back further I’d change how I was with Jimmy.
Back when I was at the Rivercourt every night, Jimmy was there and he was my friend. Mouth and Jimmy were inseparable and all of us were the closest we’d ever been to each other but then everything changed and a lot of us lost our way.
People became friends with other people and we left behind the people who should have mattered - the people who had been there long before we became popular. I’m not proud of the fact but it happened and because of it Jimmy Edwards hurt people and lost his own life in the process.
I’m not sure when we all drifted apart but sometimes you get so caught up in what’s going on in your life that you don’t open your eyes and see what’s staring right back at you.
Nobody saw Jimmy Edwards, and that’s the saddest thing of all.
Everybody remembers him for the kid that terrorised the school and shot himself because he couldn’t handle living any more. He was more than that and I just wish I’d remembered it long before that one fateful day when I lost the closest thing I had to a father and a once really close friend.
I’d take it back if I could.
