Me and my friend~ [Background] In the Slayers universe, there are three major races that walk the planet: the Shinzoku (“God Race,” most Shinzoku servants are Gold dragons), the Mazoku (“Evil Race”), and the humans. The Shinzoku and the Mazoku are two races that are bound to eternal war; the Mazoku are dedicated to returning the world to chaos, and thus, destroying the world in the process, and the Shinzoku are dedicated to preserving the world, the ‘light’ side of the coin.
At the top of the Mazoku hierarchy is Ruby-Eye Shabranigdo. Below him are five demon lords, who each created priests and generals to lead their legions of lower-ranking Mazoku and lesser demons in times of war. Most of the demon lords made one priest and one general, and some made several (*cough DYNAST GRAUSCHERRA cough*). However, Greater Beast Zelas Metallium made just one high-ranking servant, and his name is Xelloss, giving him the power of both a priest and a general in one smug being.
Not much is known about Xelloss before the War of the Demons’ Fall (the Kouma War, the Resurrection War, whatever you want to call it) 1,012 years ago, but he certainly managed to build a name for himself during the war. While Chaos Dragon Gaav and Shabranigdo were preoccupied with fighting off one of the shinzoku, the Aqua Lord, Xelloss nearly eliminated the entire dragon race single-handedly. With a wave of his hand, he literally blew up thousands of gold dragons. Just imagine what else he could do with all that power, huh? So it goes!
Nonetheless, the Mazoku lost the war and their king Ruby-Eye Shabranigdo was split into seven pieces and scattered, dormant, across the land. Since then and up until the events of Slayers NEXT, Xelloss was assigned by his Lord the Greater Beast to find and destroy Claire Bible manuscripts so that humans will be unable to learn the secret behind destroying the Mazoku race.
In Slayers NEXT, Xelloss was leant out as a servant to Hellmaster Phibrizzo, who lost both his preist and his general in the Kouma War. Phibrizzo assigned Xelloss to guide Lina Inverse to the Claire Bible to gain important knowledge about a super spiffy powerful spell that could potentially destroy the Mazoku. However, Phibrizzo’s plan was to get her to cast this super spiffy spell, then destroy her body, allowing all the power to go haywire and destroy the world in a final Mazoku triumph. That didn’t exactly work so well and Phibrizzo ended up kind of dead. Oops. But it’s okay, Xelloss didn’t really like working for him, anyway.
In Slayers TRY, Xelloss was assigned to recruit Valgaav, the last of the ancient dragons, to Greater Beast Zelas Metallium’s ranks. In exchange for Valgaav’s loyalty, he offered to kill Lina Inverse (whom he traveled with for all of Slayers NEXT and much of TRY. Some friend he is, right? :D). When Valgaav refused, he attempted to kill Valgaav but that didn’t work so well either. His assignment changed - he had to work to save the world from the invasion of a Dark Lord from a parallel universe so that the mazoku of the Slayers universe could destroy it themselves later. I know, Slayers TRY is kind of a bunch of BS and I don’t exactly consider it as part of Slayers canon per se, but what can you do. Obviously, Xelloss and the Slayers gang won and the world was not destroyed. HAPPY END.
[Personality] Most of the time, Xelloss acts like nothing more than a playful, annoying little trickster. He likes to pull pranks, many much more sinister than others, then sit back and watch with a pleasant and tranquil smile as his victims cry, scream, become angry, etc. This sort of play is to throw people off from his true intentions; Xelloss is forever planning, forever scheming, and he always has a greater goal in mind. He always, always, always knows more than he lets on. Damned if you’ll be able to get it out of him, though - most information, if you ask him for it, is a secret.
Though he looks like a rather harmless, happy human on the outside, inside he is pure evil, and make no mistake of it. He only cares about himself and advancing the needs and goals of his lord, as he is bound to do by the nature of his race. He is cocky and confident, but with good reason, since he is one of the highest-ranking Mazoku in the world. To Xelloss, humans are no more than a means to an end, and though he is rarely seen fighting, he has no qualms against murdering humans in cold blood. Humans also provide Xelloss with endless amusement and tasty snacks - Mazoku feed on negative emotions, and he is thrilled to push them over the edge for his own benefit.
Lastly, Xelloss is completely loyal to his lord, the Greater Beast. Since he was created from a piece of her, he is bound to her forever in servitude. Though he has on several occasions expressed displeasure in the orders given to him (such as working for Phibby and offering Valgaav to join the Mazoku; he knew he would never join them, and he definitely didn’t think Valgaav belonged in his ranks), he will always carry them out.
Xelloss’s true intentions are a mystery, but he’s a suspicious character to be sure. Watch yourself around him.
[Specialties/Abilities] EVERYTHING.
Okay, on a more serious note, Xelloss is the highest-ranking Mazoku outside of the five demon lords. The perfection of his human form is a testament to his power - the more perfect the human form, the more powerful the Mazoku. Xelloss is a damn powerful mazoku, and he has the ability to kick your ass to the moon and back before you’re finished blinking an eye.
Contrary to popular belief, Xelloss does not cast black magic spells. He is a Mazoku and it is a disgrace to use anything but your own power to live and fight. It would mean that he admits to a lack of confidence in himself - and obviously, he is not lacking any confidence in any sense of the word.
Physical attacks don’t really harm Xelloss. If you can even get ahold of him, you can beat him, maim him, slice him up in five different ways... and he’ll regenerate rather quickly. This is because the human body people can see in the physical plane is not his true body but an astral projection. His true form resides on the Astral Plane, that of a large black drill (and as silly as it sounds, it can cause some ridiculous damage and scary impalements). The only way to hurt Xelloss is if you are able to land a Chaos Magic hit on him, but only Lina Inverse is capable of such magic, and… well, you’d have to hit him. His rapid teleportation really makes him a difficult fly to catch.
Even though he could easily destroy anyone he meets, Xelloss will not act unless given the orders to do so. Luckily, he is rarely seen killing or fighting anybody and instead much prefers to play the trickster. He’d rather annoy you than kill you… for the moment, at least.
[Affection] He'd allow most types of affection as long as it works to his advantage. Until it gives him a stomachache, of course. Men, beware of
THE TRAP.
[Fighting] LOL you can try, if you really want to after reading about Xelloss's abilities above. Normally he will not actually fight others, but when he does, you're just done.
[Other Facts] Xelloss’s one weakness is positive emotions. If one were to go on a happy I LOVE LIFE/LIFE IS WONDERFUL rampage around Xelloss, he would get massive indigestion.
Additionally, Xelloss almost always keeps his eyes squinted or closed in a very innocuous manner. If he opens his eyes and shows off his frightening, purple, light-less irises, you’re in big trouble. Open eyes usually means he’s bringing on the evil.
He also likes to break the fourth wall and speak directly to the audience for comedic purposes. Yay fourth wall breakage!
