I believe there is a difference actually. I think it is financial. There are different fees and taxes that come from being heirs vs being left something in a will. You might wish to check it out maybe. Isn't your step-father a lawyer?

Yeah, its his area of expertise and he thinks there's virtually no difference. Either way you still have to pay the same amount of taxes. Isn't that gross.
