Aujourd'hui je pensais que je pratiquerai mon francais un peu, car il est terriblement négligé, et j'en ai honte. Mais finalement... non :P

Hey, I added you for your interest in languages, which I share (especially Russian and French). I hope you don't mind. I'm currently studying literature and French at the University of Oslo, and hey, I see you're in town!
I actually live about an hour outside of Oslo in a small place called Skjetten. It's tiring to have to spend so much time travelling every day, but it's okay. Where do you live?
It seems so odd to me that you have to buy coriander in special shops there! We have it all over the place here.
We have lots of immigrant shops here, but I'm beginning to think they might soon go out of business, because regular grocery stores are beginning to carry more and more "ethnic" foods, eliminating the need for most people to go to a specialty shop.
"Normal" stores usually don't carry fresh coriander, and if they do it's in pots that costs 30 NOK, while you get a bundle with more in it at the immigrant shops for 10 :P The fruit prices at those stores are generally 50% of the normal stores'.
But the same thing is happening here, though I never think those stores will go out of business. They have like 15 different chili sauces and 100 different beans and so many things ICA, KIWI and the rest could never fit into their stores. There are more of those stores than the normal ones, that's how many immigrants there are here ;) The Pakistani population of Oslo is huuuuge... The second biggest immigrant group is the Swedish, and the Swedes are also starting to create their own "ghettos".
The grocery store near my old home in Ottawa had like 15 chili sauces and 100 different beans in the international food aisle ;) Then again, my neighbourhood there was mostly recent immigrants, primarily from Somalia and Pakistan, so that grocery store had lots of food that would typically be found only in "ethnic" stores. But one thing that I have seen become standard at all grocery stores in large cities is halal meat. Everybody has that these days. Though that's a recent thing, within the last five years or so.
And I specify recent immigrants, since 99% of us here in Canada are immigrants anyways ;) Some just a bit further back than others.
And oh - now that I'm settled here, did you still want that Russian verb book? The one I can send you is this one. If so, then email me your new address at daughterofnyx at yahoo dot com and I'll get it in the mail for you!
That is impressive! In Stockholm you don't at all see that many of these shops, but here all shops are quite small (there's not a whole lot of space) so I guess more are needed. The Stores in Umeå were bigger than the ones in Oslo ;)
Oooh, definitely want that book! Sending you an e-mail straight away!
