Chapter 9b

Yunho had been discussing about Moonbin’s terms of scholarship with Park Yoochun for an hour in his office. Apparently he offered that Moonbin to transfer to a new school in the next term rather than waiting for another year. This would be an advantage for him cause it would be easier for him to get into High School since he graduated from the same private school. This way, he will also have time to adapt and adjust to his new environment.

Yunho was happy with everything that the foundation offered so far, he only needed Moonbin’s agreement before he signs anything. He wanted to be fair with his Son, though everything seemed more than ok for him he still wanted his son understand what he signed up for.

“I’m glad that our proposal is to your satisfactory, Jung-ssi.” Yoochun smiled at him.

“I guess it’s more than enough already. Thank you for giving my son another chance for the scholarship.” He nodded to the man in front of him. “May I ask you something?”

“Sure, anything else that you need to know?”

“Did you offer him the program because he really deserves it?”

Yoochun raised an eyebrow. “I don’t get what you mean. Do you think Moonbin doesn’t deserve it?”

“No, I mean…” Yoochun could see him struggling with his words. “Did… the foundation’s owner knew about him being my son when you were searching for candidates?”

Yunho realized that he thought highly of himself by asking this question, indirectly hinting if it has anything to do with his past with Jaejoong. But he just needed to know for the sake of Moonbin. He didn’t want his son to be disappointed in the future should Jaejoong change his mind to get back at him. Or maybe he really IS thinking too highly of himself.

“I’m sorry, I know I shouldn’t ask you but-“

“You the right to ask, Jung-ssi. After… the commotion we caused at your house. I guess I owed you an honest answer.”

“Please.”

Yoochun sighed. “To tell you the truth, your connection with our President did affect the offer. At first, that was the only thing that made us give him the offer. But after I met him at school and talked with the principal, I found out that we have picked a perfect candidate. Not only that he’s smart, he also has a high sense of responsibility. He’s helpful and definitely the type of kid that everyone wanted to have. And I believe that with that attitude, he could be someone that the foundation can be very proud of in future.”

Yunho nodded.

“Jung-ssi, believe me when I say that you should be proud of your son. He’s incredible.”

“Thank you, he’s my pride and joy. I’m grateful that you’re giving him this opportunity because he really deserves it and not because of… my… past acquaintances with your president.” He gave him an awkward smile.

“Understandable. Anything else you’d like to ask me?”

“I think they’re all clear enough for me.” As he stood up to leave, he shook Yoochun’s hand before he headed to the door. “I will call you once I have a chat with my son.”

Yoochun nodded, “I’ll be expecting that.”

Just before he reached out for the knob, the door was opened and Jaejoong was standing outside.

Honestly, he had expected another confrontation with Jaejoong for the visit. But after the talk finished there was no sign of the man at all, he thought that he wouldn’t show up. So he didn’t show his surprise to see him standing there looking all mighty and handsome like the way he was. Before he had a chance to say anything, Jaejoong beat him to it.

“Yoochun, you may leave.”

He could see that the other man didn’t look comfortable with the order but he left anyway. And Jaejoong closed the door behind him.

They didn’t say anything for awhile and Yunho was ready to leave if he’s not going to speak.

“How are you?”

Yunho wasn’t sure if that’s what Jaejoong wanted to ask of him but he replied anyway, “I’m fine, thanks for asking. I believe that my discussion regarding my son’s scholarship is done, so I’ll take my leave.” He was about to turn away but Jaejoong caught on his arm.

“I’m sorry.” He moved so they’re standing only two feet away, facing each other. “I’m sorry for… what I’ve done on our last meeting.”

“You did nothing wrong. I was scheduling my angioplasty at that time, maybe I should’ve done it earlier. No one’s fault, no need to say sorry.”

“Stay.”

Yunho began to feel confused with Jaejoong. Whatever he was saying didn’t make any sense to him. He asked me to stay? He wondered what’s on the other man’s mind.

“I’m sorry, but my son will be home from school shortly, I promised to tell him of my discussion with Park-ssi. And I can’t leave my employee tending to the store by herself all day. So if you excuse me.”

“Stay with me. Be with me. Return to me.” Jaejoong took another step forward and now they’re standing so close that Yunho could almost hear the sound of his breath.

“Jaejoong-ssi, I-“

“Jae… call me Jae like you used to. I missed you so much.”

“…”

“Yunho, say something… anything… I know that I’ve made a mistake but I really missed you! Tell me what I can do to make it up to you, I’ll do anything… everything, as long as we could be together again. Please…”

Though he had been expecting him to show up, he didn’t expect experience such action from him. He was confused as hell that he just stood there stiffly, not even being able to return the gesture from the other man. It’s painful, despite a thousand times he told himself that there’s absolutely nothing between them anymore; that it’s all in the past, he couldn’t deny the longing deep inside him to hold the man in his arms and patched things back to the way it used to be.

His resolution almost crumbled to pieces when Jaejoong slowly raised his face and looked to him, his breath tickled the tip of his nose.

“Forgive me… I’m sorry… I missed you Yunho…”

When their lips met, Yunho felt like he’s going to explode. Jaejoong’s touch burned him to the core. All coherent thoughts flew out the window as the other man put his arms around his neck and pulled him deeper into the kiss. It didn’t take long before he started to respond… it’s like his body started to remember again what it’s like to be with Jaejoong.

Though it’s hard to believe, ever since Jaejoong left Yunho hadn’t been involved in any romantic relationship with anyone. He was focusing his life to raise Moonbin. There were a few opportunities, but he lost his will completely after the accident that took his left arm.

It was hard enough to make ends meet for him and his son with a healthy body, let alone with only one arm. He decided that romance was no longer for him, he even suspected that he had lost his sexual desires completely. But that’s proven wrong for the couple of times he woke up panting and wet for dreaming of the times with Jaejoong.

And now suddenly he’s back in his arms again and it wasn’t a dream. His body shook with surprise and he’s on fire with every butterfly touch ghosted over his skin.

Their tongues battled for dominance, and he unconsciously wounded his arms around Jaejoong’s waist, trying to pull him even closer to his body to cease the fire that’s burning him.

Suddenly they were 18 again. They kissed with passion like there’s no tomorrow. Yunho felt like in a trance, lost into the oblivion with every swipe of Jaejoong’s tongue in his mouth. He almost believed that this time it would last forever when suddenly Jaejoong jerked away from him.

He just stood there with a blank look and mouth hanging opened, obviously still lost in whatever spells that Jaejoong casted on him until a few seconds ago. His hands were still in the shape of Jaejoong’s waist when he held him. Confusion was written all over his face. Jaejoong look at him in fear, holding his breath and looking only at one spot.

Then it dawned on him when he realized that somehow, someway, in the middle of the heated kiss Jaejoong managed to open a few buttons of his shirt and now the left sleeve was slid over his shoulder, revealing the part where what’s left of his arm and the prosthesis connected. Jaejoong was shocked upon touching the prosthesis connector. The spell was broken. Here was reality. Jung Yunho, a single father with a fake left arm and coming to get a scholarship for his only son because he couldn’t afford to put him into a good school despite his extraordinary brain. He was just an ordinary man.

He chuckled bitterly in shame as he tried to suppress his shaking hands to fix his clothes and hair, not trying to hide the hurt and pain of being rejected once again by the same person.

He cleared his throat before he started to speak to the other man who was still standing awkwardly in front of him. “I think I really should take my leave Kim Jaejoong-ssi. I’m sorry to waste your time, but I guess it won’t happen again since it’s going to be the last time we meet.”

“Yun, I- I’m sorry! I was- I just-“

“Let me give you a little advice, Kim-ssi. Find someone suitable to your level rather than a poor, invalid man. At least that way you can save someone else’s face after being dumped when you find him far from your liking.”

He left and closed the door softly. No more anger, no emotion. He met Yoochun’s curious gaze through the glass wall when he passed his room, he nodded politely at him as he walked faster to get to away from that place as soon as his feet could take him.

It’s official now. There’s no more Kim Jaejoong in the life of Jung Yunho. They’re just two adults living lives of their own and he will keep on living the way he had lived all along. As the owner of Star Mart, a brother to Shim Changmin and a father to Jung Moonbin.

C’est la vie.
