This week has been a lot of fun. I made
김치 (a traditional Korean food served with every meal) on Tuesday, and the Koreans showing me how to make it complimented me on my technique. This wasn't just them being nice either; the other teacher doing it with us was picked on quite a bit (all in good fun). (

Korea most certainly does NOT have Pocky. Importation of items from Japan doesn't go over well most of the time due to the fact that older people were still alive during the occupation. In an entry where I already mention this, I would think you could be more culturally sensitive. There is, however, Pepero (which is the exact same thing with cuter mascots). I refer you to my Pepero Day entry where there is a link to wikipedia that explains how 11-11 looks like sticks of Pepero, and so another marketing-driven holiday is born. Pocky ended up stealing that idea 5 years later, but since the idea was "borrowed" from Pocky in the first place, it must work out in the end.
Besides, how hard can it be to dip sticks in chocolate?
"Do they have Pocky in Korea?" Did you do any fact-checking before you turned this in? What if I did that that to you? Oh yeah, Erin, she's a stripe-ed green rabbit with two butts.
Okay, until next time, keep sending me your questions, ( ... )
