Your icon is sadly appropriate. So many people seem to believe that the Constitution promises "freedom of OUR religion, yours is crazy and bad."
I want them to explain the logic of fighting jihadists by burning a holy book. If logic even applies to this situation. I find it hard to believe it does. But it might be fun to watch them try to dance around it.
Although this is kind of interesting... if not for all this fervor about how Muslims are bad and we should hide from them, I would probably know nothing about them. I probably, coming to it on my own, would have said, "No, a mosque shouldn't be that close to Ground Zero." But since Faux News and their idiots have been harping on it, I've gotten enough information to say, "It's a community center, it's a place to worship, and there are dozens (hundreds?) of them in New York already. Why is this a big deal? Let them have their church, FFS."
Christian religions are the only real ones, dontcha know. *rolls eyes*
I want them to explain the logic of fighting jihadists by burning a holy book. Yeah. They yak on about being for true America and take back America and - stuff like this is actually helping the terrorists. *shakes head* It's mind boggling stupid. And terrifying.
I was of the argument "being hate-filled and ignorant only enforces their rhetoric that Americans are hate-filled and ignorant, and you're only helping their cause by responding this way," but then Jon Stewart said something I really agree with:
"How about we react without giving a shit about what they think or how they'll react? That's like wondering how your ex-girlfriend would feel about the drapes you and your wife picked out for the new apartment."
I also agree with them about how if we're going to vilify all Muslims, we should do the same with all religions: treat them based on the worst thing anyone ever did in the name of that religion. So Catholics are all pedophiles, and Christians. Whoooo, you do NOT want to get near those wackadoodles.
Ah, Jon Stewart is totally awesome and is so right about that. But I still think your first part is a logical rebuttal when they trot out 'the community center mosque aids terrorists' idiocy. Of course, trying to persuade them with logic works about as well as spitting into the wind...
