Always having been a lover of French and Russian Literature, I used to dream about hosting the sort of circles and salons that my heroes of the plume held in the 18th and 19th centuries. I have hired people (and places) for rather fabulous parties (three days of playing at Zorro at the Hearst Hacienda, anyone?). But I've never had such a thing in my home. Really must remedy that.

Also, in a similar vein, I heartily recommend commissioning original art.

So many performers are eager for house-concert opportunities. If you put it out there that you have the space and desire for such gatherings, it will happen! Some of the amazing writers who have given readings here I actually met through livejournal. It might not happen over night, but you easily lay the groundwork to make it happen.
