For me, I tend to start writing first and then worry about everything fitting together. I like to get my thoughts on paper so that I don't lose them. For the most part, it works.
300 was awesome! I saw it for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Gene bought it for us and we watched it the next day. I thought it was really well thought out. Not as bloody/gory as I had been told it would be. I like how much history was put into the piece of fiction. All in all, I think it was great.

As far as writing goes, if I try to write without a solid framework, I'll simply get bored with my story at some point, and it will lack the depth that I want it to have. Methods have to meed the needs of the writer, though, so like any art, my way is the best, and to hell with others... I mean, there is no right way.

I know what you mean, and that does sometimes happen to me, but usually when I re-pick it up, I can jump right back into it. As you say, there is no right way to do things, and this just happens to be the one that usually works for me. I have had to take a break from writing a story to do more world creation since I need to go more in-depth into those things and work out the mechanics, but I guess that's what happens when you create your own universe from scratch.
