C-section poll

Mar 01, 2012 12:20

My SIL has just had c-section for her second baby and has suffered Dural tear, but now is on the mend and hopefully she won't have long term-effects. I am really curious now how common are both short-term and long-term effects for the mother...There are effects on the baby to consider too but maybe another poll. Tell me anything obvious I haven't ( Read more... )

My c-section was probably life-saving and definitely injury-preventing, for both me and Charles. It was also painful for at least 3 months and upsetting for longer than that. It has also changed the rules for my second birth.

I don't want another one but if I have to (through breech or pre-eclampsia, or having a huge-headed baby again), it's not the end of the world. I'm trying quite hard not to have one though.

Yeah, the difference between short-term and long-term seems quite arbitrary in this poll! *sigh* 3 months is long time when it comes to dealing with newborn. Sorry.

2 csections, one emergency and one planned. No problems with either one.

I say no complications but it's been only 5 weeks and all ok so far. but I did lose 1 litre of blood but they just gave me iron tablets

Yay, glad it all went relatively smoothly! How's the soreness 5 weeks on?

Fine unless Emily decides to kick me there when I am holding her

For "other"--the excess blood loss (but not enough to need a transfusion) contributed to a LOT of bruising (more than most of the nurses had ever seen), which was also probably also exacerbated/intertwined with the fact they had to do a lot of twisting and turning to get her out (she was footling breech). It turns out I developed a hematoma, and a week after the surgery, the incision burst. Very messy and scary but I guess not actually that serious because it was just the skin/fat layers. But I did need to have the hole/wound packed by a visiting nurse for a couple of weeks or so. I'm seven weeks out and the incision is pretty much all healed up now, although I will have a messier scar than most.

I should not that not everyone with a burst incision will have a messier scar than most--higher risk of it, but not always. Just the way it worked out with me.

What an image of burst incision! I really hope the scar heals as best as it can!

No issues at all. My c-section was unplanned and I suspect it was very important- he was so tangled up in the cord that it took them several attempts to get him out during the op! No regrets at all. Plus he was 10lb 3oz- I think I dodged a bullet on that one.

Same here, but my daughter was much smaller - 7lbs 7oz. She wouldn't descend and they said it was because she was so wrapped up in the cord (and it was wrapped around her neck three times).

OP - No complications. I was out of the hospital after 48 hours.

Ouch, quite the image of baby being wrestled out of the cord! Glad all went ok...
