so on top of the incredible storm coming my way, i just found out that one of my very close cousins, not one any of you know, has hiv. he was very close to dying but they managed to get him to the hospital. so he was stupid and decided not to take care of himself cuz he was depressed. hence the depression made him go stay with his sons mom, who is

I can't say anything about your cousin's illness that won't sound trite, so I won't. But I'd like to offer you a thought that helped me deal with with the extreme grief that came from the unexpected suicide of my best fried from Japan:
On the Irish side of my family, we say that a person's death isn't the end of their presence in the world. They last as long as the things they do (and did) carry on. They last until the cookies they made are eaten, until the house they started building falls down from age, until their sons and grandsons and on down the ages have passed out of this world. So really, those we love don't leave, because we can see them all around us.
