I liked that even when Teyla couldn't understand a word that anyone was saying, she knew where she wanted to be, but yet it still didn't help the isolation of being surrounded by words she didn't understand. Not understanding a word when you're home is a far different and worse feeling than not understanding a word in a far away land ( ... )

This is thoughtful and intelligent and so interesting. I like how you had me take a step outside the SGA universe and ask some questions about how it functions.

Now I'm waiting for empressvesica's porn credits to be called in, of course.

I love this to pieces. Thank you SO MUCH for talking about cultural difference and language barriers in such a smart and complex way; you say a lot of important things about Teyla and her position in Atlantis, here. Also, it's incredibly funny - I laughed out loud so often that I stopped counting, eventually. Teyla's POV is wonderfully wry and clever, and her interactions with Rodney are perfect for being frustrating and sweet at the same time.

To conclude, you are the best.

Awww, this is fantastic, and... yes. I totally have the English Speaker's Guilt whenever I go to another country and rely on English, and this was a really neat spin on that. I love your Teyla voice - she's so thoughtful! And I love that Rodney seems to be the one who gets why she feels shortchanged. But yes, this was fantastic and I loved it and I'm sorry I can't write more than that but I think my brain is broken. Damn essay. *sigh* Aaaaanyway. Lovely work, hon. *hugs*

Oh yay, you wrote it! I remember the discussion in the comments of the last story and I still adore this idea -- because this bit of canon makes zero sense. But I love how you play with it here and how well the German works to make us feel Teyla's alienation.

This works beautifully -- and as usual, I adore your Teyla voice. :D
