Just call me Bridget Jones

People keep asking me how my love life is, am I dating anyone, have I found anyone yet. I'm 29, single, never married, no kids, which down South is akin to a felony, it seems. Nearly everyone I know is married or dating someone. I mean, it probably doesn't help that I don't actually know a lot of people my age; it seems like most of the people I ( Read more... )

I so agree with all of this. If it helps at all to know that? Actually, I could have written a lot of this, right down to a dad who found his second wife on Match.com! I tried E Harmony for months and meet one perfect geeky, brilliant cool guy. But it ended up not working out ( ... )

I did move to a new school this year! Same district, but now I'm teaching high school English. Exciting! Although I'm expecting to have to field a bazillion questions about my love life, both from my students and from my new coworkers. It wouldn't be so irritating if my "no" answer to "Are you married/do you have a boyfriend?" wasn't immediately followed by "How come?" I mean, because I just don't, that's why. Because I do not have the time or the energy for the dating game - and they call it a game for a reason. My one other single friend is always telling me about these guys she meets and dates from Match.com, and it's never a good story. They're players, they act like jerks, they call too much or not at all, their grammar makes her ears bleed (she's an English teacher, too)...why do I want to put myself through that? I know you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find the prince, but I'm not interested in kissing any frogs. Dating is way too much work ( ... )

Argh! My high school students always ask lots of questions as well-why aren't you married? don't you have kids? Plus, they are never satisfied with an answer either! It's always why? Why not? Don't you wanna get married/be a mom? The girls are the WORST, actually! Because of their unawareness that their questions are rude, I think, and also how clear their thoughts are-But you're OLD. LOL, ;>)

But oh well, I do get some of them who'll say wow, that's cool that you're on your own or I'm not gonna be in a rush either and things like that. I couldn't agree more though. Clearly, we don't have to be part of a pair or have kids to be happy, but to the people who all ready are that way, I suppose it's harde to resist encouraging others to join them.

Good luck at the new school, also!

I mean this mostly in jest, but you should play world of warcraft. I've met a fair amount of cute geeky guys between the ages of 21 and 32 who are single and fun to be around. many do like star trek and the like too.

i mean you have to wade through the frat boys and 12 year olds too but sometimes you meet that rare gem.

"world of warcraft, its dating game that isn't supposed to be!"
