Shoulder update - 8 weeks post-op

Nov 19, 2008 13:25

It's been 8 weeks today since my shoulder surgery (and the birth of my nephew, but that's another story).  I haven't posted about it since day 10, and shubbe  has politely asked for an update, so here it is, behind a cut for those who don't want to know.

Glad to hear you are healing and not in great pain!! Don't look to me as an example of someone who is refreshed after a short break from training. I took my break about 53 weeks ago and haven't done any serious training (other than a week at Cycle Oregon) since.

Not to mention you had a fabulous time at Silverman!

Sounds like it's been a bit tough, I'm sure because you're not used to being way active. Hang in there! Glad to know you're healing well :)

thanks for posting! it's so good for me to hear of your experience and you are inspiring to me. :) i had my first (prob not last) meltdown last night. the bulkiness of the sling is the most aggravating. not to mention the drugs caught up with me, so that is way dialed back today.

i appreciate you so very much--hang in there and i would love to train/race with you later in 2009.

Awww I'm sorry! But I so understand. Do you have one of those slings with the attached pillow? That's what I had. It did take some getting used to.

Here's to a full recovery in 2009! I look forward to training and racing with you too!!

Man, you're being so good. I don't think I was that good. Maybe that's why I suffered more. :) But I think I was suffering and that made me less good. Not vice versa. Maybe. Ha.

I still can't sleep on my back, after all that. You'd figure I'd have adjusted, but no.

Those last things take a while to come.. arm straight up and whatnot. But they do, and you don't even notice it happening. And when you go to swim again, it'll feel so normal you'll want to cry.

Aqua jogging was a nice way to get back into it. It seemed less boring than the elliptical. But the weather might not be all that conducive to aqua jogging now.

Anyway. This comment is all over the place. You sound like you're doing great, and your restlessless is normal and understandable. Keep up with your PT and whatnot, and you'll be back training in no time, and all the more enthusiastic for having had a break.

And thanks for the update!

I can't wait to go back to comfortable sleeping. I can kinda sleep on my good side for a while. I've tried my bad side, but it isn't comfortable yet. I hate sleeping on my back. But it's better than not sleeping!

Thanks for the encouragement. It helps, to hear it from someone who's been there before.

Glad you are feeling better! Yeah, I'm struggling with the same thing fitness wise. I can say that it is not that hard to get back in shape. What is hard is getting the routine back. I was able to get back up to 4 miles within a week - but then just stopped running. Now I have a few days where I run followed by days and days of pure lack of motivation. Once I get myself "out there" I do fine. We should make a pact to tell each other every day to put on our running clothes and step outside and see what happens :-)

BTW - any interest in lunch one of these days?

Yes, we need a pact. It's good to hear that you got back in shape fast. I hope that works for me too.

And I would LOVE to do lunch. You free Tuesday? I'm taking the day off.
