Title: man I am way too tired for titles
Characters/Pairings: Xion, Roxas, Sora.
Summary: They're three parts of the same whole.
Rating: G
Warnings: SPOILERS for Kingdom Hearts. (Namely, 358/2 Days.)
The first time they met up at Destiny Islands, Xion thought that it was going to be weird, with her, Roxas and Sora hanging out together; not only was Roxas from a different time, but in all actuality, they were three parts of the same person - Sora was just the most complete. Still, Sora insisted, and it was hard to deny a boy that enthusiastic.
Despite her worries, it was fun. For Roxas, things hadn't started to go downhill yet, and for Sora, it didn't matter.
Xion was just glad to see her friend and the boy that was so important to them both doing alright. Her chest didn't ache so much, either.
It became a routine. Sora would tell them about his adventures (although it was oddly like deja vu, for Xion) and talk about things they'd never heard of, and Roxas and Xion would pass on things that Axel had taught them (Xion knew more, of course; Roxas found it more than a little unfair). They raced, they had sword-fights, they watched the sunset, and they even shared a paopu fruit between the three of them - by order of Sora, naturally.
It was nice, and Xion had completely forgotten about what would inevitably befall Roxas.
But then, his posts to the community changed. They were panicked, and bitter, and whenever they spoke, it seemed like the conversation ended in an argument; he demanded to know what was going to happen, and why she hadn't warned him - but she wouldn't say anything. No lies of a happy ending, no truths about the end he was hurtling toward at a dangerous speed; nothing more than, "It'll get better."
His attitude to Sora took the same path, and eventually, she and Sora could only watch his life crumbling around him. The only difference was that Sora didn't know the ending - Xion did. She couldn't bring herself to look, most of the time.
I'm leaving.
And then there was a video.
Sora found it first, and they watched it together; they watched right until the end. Sora cried, and Xion just... couldn't. Maybe it was the right choice, and maybe it wasn't, but it had already happened, and she couldn't watch her own life shatter in his arms again.
She wanted to talk to him. She wanted to say, I'm here, Roxas, but she couldn't. There were things he had to do, and she couldn't get in the way of that.
So she just watched. He fought Riku for her, and she could see him forget - both of them (You can't even remember her name, can you?) - and she felt so proud and relieved and stupid at the same time. She saw him in Twilight Town - the fake Twilight Town, and Lyle literally had to drag her out of the room she had confined herself to. She saw him with Sora, and it was alright again.
And then, he posted to the community, with the same question that had been plagueing her since her own introduction; Why aren't I a part of Sora anymore?
She smiled, for the first time in a while. Maybe he didn't remember her, but that was the way it was supposed to be. And if they started again, maybe they would get it right this time.
I'm here, Roxas.
And she kind of had to laugh at his confusion.
