In the FQ, a couple other fancy places that are worth the money are:
Irene's Cuisine, for *Italian* Creole, and
Bistro at the Maison de Ville, for a more French experience.

Some ways out of the FQ are:
Domilise's, uptown on Annunciation St right by the river, for nitty gritty po'boys. I recommend the half-and-half, or shrimp with or without roast beef gravy. Make sure to have [root] beer along with.
Dunbar's, which fled to a spot on the Tulane campus after Katrina, but might have moved back to its location on Freret St, for lovingly prepared soul food. Their daily specials (e.g. meatloaf) are excellent, but I almost always get the red beans. At least a few years ago, they used to come with free refills(!), and each plate with your choice of a piece of fried chicken or smoked sausage. I would force myself to take another plate just to have had the chance of one of each side item.

I can vouch for the Acme Oyster House. And oddly enough, my cousin just asked me where to eat in New Orleans, and I was able to forward this post along to her! :-)
