Ok, I'm going to not bother with the LJ cut.  Because I'm not going to spoil anything here.  My reply to this is the spoiler.  So if anyone wants to discuss it, come on here.

SPOILERS tripp3235 October 28 2011, 23:23:00 UTC
Here is what has everyone upset:

Spanish Flu sweeps through Downton, leaving Carson, Lavinia and Cora very ill. Lavinia and Matthew's wedding preparations are thrown into disarray and she catches Matthew and Mary kissing and later takes a turn for the worst and dies. Matthew feels responsible and is adamant that he and Mary do not deserve to be together ( ... )

To me, the Robert storyline makes more sense if it IS whilst Cora is so ill, as if he's grief stricken, he's not thinking straight and is after comfort. I just hope Cora doesn't die and Robert get remarried - that would be sooooo annoying in terms of the entail issue and feel so much more OOC ( ... )

I think my issue with Robert (and Cora) is there hasn't been enough estrangement for him to even explain why he runs to Jane and kiss her. (If that' show it goes). I don't know. Robert's main issues was he didn't feel like he had enough to do during the war. Then the war is over so...what is his problem?

My issue is HOW EASY it is, to just kill off Matthew's fiancee! I mean people have been predicting this since day 1 and we all thought it was too obvious! Plus I like Lavinia, we've had no reason to really dislike her and I don't want her killed off...

I get that issue. I really do. And maybe I'll get mad when I see it. But at this point I'm ready for Lavinia to just go and if this is how, fine. The real problem is doesn't get rid of Carlisle does it?

I also think this is why we have the Christmas special. I always wondered why JF would insist on writing one more 2 hour special.

I don't think we can doubt the believability of the spoilers though, sadly! While Lavinia probably dies, the spoiler's writing can make it ( ... )

For all we know it's a comforting kiss on the cheek between M and M but Lavinia, with all her "I'll die without him" freaks out. Really, really, really, really annoyed they'd go this route.

Sent you a Twitter DM about Robert.

Well, I do think Lavinia may be a little stronger then that. I almost wonder now if it's the sex scene, Lavinia witnesses the beginning of it, and THAT is why matthew feels so guilty which certainly would add to it. Watching M/M have sex might make up for it.

I really don't think they go that far! I mean, I am dying for M/M to have a virginal peck on the cheek for Pete's sake!! So sad to think that even THAT bit is to be ruined by stupid Lavinia.

I'll tell you what, out of all of that, really would hack me off.

Is that by the sounds of it, Sybil and Branson get a happy ending. While M/M are potentially left hanging. AGAIN. Seriously, HOW is that fair?! In fact, if I were an S/B shipper I'd almost be pissed at how EASY that's been. NOTHING, and then in the last 2 episodes they get a happy ever after? NOPE. That's not fair.

I agree that Matthew's reaction is completely IC and, really, justified - he shouldn't just shrug off Lavinia dying, particularly if he feels responsible! I just hope, and we have no reason to not hope for this, that just in time he realises it's absolutely mulish to consign them both to a lifetime of unhappiness for the sake of that. I think with a clearer perspective and passed time, that will come. Christmas special... I'm hoping.

BUT STILL. THEY KISS. And at the very least, they'll know they love each other. It's not that Matthew doesn't WANT to be with her! So yay. I think?

Yea, that would me piss me off too. I just told someone that out the 3 main couples (Mary/Matthew, S/B and A/B) the one that should NOT get the happy ending is S/B. My god, they've barely suffered at all and there is room for all kinds of new issues for them. And if I have to hear one more Branflake talk about how horrible Branson has been treated, I'm going to scream.

Lavinia might see the kissing and leave, M/M don't realize it and it all comes off. Then Matthew realizes he just had sex while his fiancee was dying. Now THAT ( ... )

Do you know, that did occur to me. It did. That really WOULD make Matthew a bit of an ass, but... Yeah... We can but hope, right?!

Lol it would him an ass, but I believe the fandom would cheer him on for it.

Maybe Carlisle is a still a threat to M/M? I mean, where's the whole Pamuk thing??? Is it ever coming out? Because Carlisle's the man for that.
I am also curious about what the hell Matthew would do AFTER the kiss regarding Carlisle. Would he still insist on Mary marrying Carlisle? (For if he does, I swear to God, I will punch him in the you know what through my computer screen).
Also, Carlisle would NOT die of a heart attack if he witnessed the kiss. He's above that. He would find worse ways of destroying Mary, like kill her soul.
