Penny drove to the quiet suburb and parked at a strip mall parking lot where the small stores were already closed for the evening. She got out of the car while Sheldon looked questioningly at her, and got two bright yellow pilons from her trunk. She walked in front of her car for several yards and put a pilon down, then walked behind her car roughly the same amount, and placed the other.
She went back to her car and opened the passenger door, and looked down at him, "Your mission, should you choose to accept it--"
Sheldon laughed--just slightly more than his usual breathy snort.
Penny continued, smiling, "--is to drive, in a figure eight, between and around those two pilons."
Sheldon got up out of the passenger seat, and looked ahead, then behind him-mentally calculating a trajectory with the distance and curves needed to perform what Penny had assigned him. He had a sudden thought, "Penny, where exactly did you get these pilons?" He narrowed his eyes at her.
Penny grinned wide, "I stole them!"
Sheldon gasped loudly and rounded on her, "Penny! I can't be using stolen goods to practice driving with!" His eyes were bugged wide.
It was just too easy sometimes, Penny giggled to herself, "Relax sweetie, I got them fair and square." More like, she'd flirted them off a couple of sexy construction workers, but Sheldon didn't need to know that! "C'mon--into the driver's seat." She prodded him with her hand between his shoulder blades
Sheldon looked back suspicously at her, but shrugged, and allowed her to direct him to sit behind the wheel. She sat in the passenger's side while he played with the seatbelt, mirror, seat and lights. "Ready?" She asked while she put on her seatbelt.
"Ready," Sheldon said, and with a deep breath, started the car.
He did his first figure eight so slowly, Penny thought she could walk it faster-but his corners were smooth. With a glare from her, Sheldon had sped up a bit--but his foot touched the gas in a jerky manner, and once, even Penny had to grab the dash in front of her for support. He murmured a "Sorry" and kept trying to even out his speed. Once he had, though, his corners were sharper, and although he never knocked one over, he did 'bend' one of the pilons, and he cringed, bringing the car to a stop.
"It's ok, sweetie," Penny rubbed his knee, "you're doing great!" He really was--his knuckles weren't as white as before, and although he still pursed his lips while he drove, like it took all of his concentration (which was funny as hell to Penny, considering who he was), he did seem a little more relaxed. She smiled widely at him for encouragement.
"Thank you," Sheldon half-smiled, "though driving where there's no traffic may have attributed to my comfort levels behind the wheel."
Penny grinned, "Well, you can drive us home if you'd like."
"I don't think so," Sheldon teased back, "I think I'd better quit while I'm ahead."
Penny laughed as she undid her seatbelt as he undid his, and they rounded the front of the car to switch places--her patting his cheek as she passed. She picked up the pilon with the bend in it and threw it in her trunk.
Behind the wheel again, Penny drove to the other pilon and put it into the trunk as well.
With a smile, Penny drove them home.
