I just realised that I haven't commented on this for ages! I can only apologise... (The last chapter I read was during a break from cleaning my empty flat and wolfing down as much roast pork chow mein as humanly possible in about 10 minutes.)

I love that you're not trying to make Naomi noble or anything like that - she's fucking awful with words (when it matters the most) so to watch her flailing here feels very true to her character.

It's what I've always said about Naomi, like even defending her IRL to mates who watch the show, that she can't say the right thing because she cares too much and that really shines through here.

Also, I very much want to read what's on Emily's phone ;) I can half-imagine the filth those two would come up with.

This whole story is such a massive treat. I'm thoroughly enjoying every word of it.

Oh god!!! I was dying when Katie took Naomi's phone and Emily answered with a "babe" but that went quite well... but then of course Katie has to pick up Emily's phone and read everything!! Damn it that was good, I'm always on edge with this story, waiting for something shocking to happen.... and clearly I'm never disappointed! :O ( ... )

Emily is the third string here, but I like how clear her emotional journey is. She has already carved out her own emotional niche and isn't AS demanding of Naomi's time as she is in canon. Ultimately, I think this bodes well for N/E's relationship. Unlike you, I was happy with a lot of the ideas in season four, but felt thought the execution let the storyline down. At the end, I thought N/E managed to get to a point in canon where they are both on the same page, emotionally, and they are a lot more even (in basic terms season= Naomi having all the power, and season four, it’s Emily). Here, their dynamic is already a lot more mature. I think it shows that their differing back-story has altered the perspective of both characters ( ... )

I really feel for Naomi here, even though her problem is entirely of her own making. I understand why she's been afraid to tell Katie the truth from the beginning, but it's hard to believe it never occurred to her that the longer her relationship with Emily went on without Katie knowing, the angrier Katie would be when she found out (and with justification, I might add). Naomi's best chance for making this work was to tell Katie immediately, and persuade her that Naomi/Emily didn't have to change Naomi/Katie. Now, though, Naomi's relationship with Emily already HAS changed her relationship with Katie. She's dug herself quite a hole here, and I'm eager to see how you're going to have her get herself out of it.

Some random bits and bobs: I love "Fitch-themed game of seesaw." And I especially love Sophia "showing Effy how to make a sundial out of twigs, in case Effy ever has a time-keeping emergency."
