Day 2: When able, make next available U-turn!

May 15, 2009 09:52

Jess again, I'm the big LJ person anyway, so I'm not surprised I'm the most egar to update this thing. But be assured, Clara will most likely wrest this thing away from me sometime soon. Sorry for not updating last night (mom.) but we got here, and ate food, showered, and passed out (in various different orders)

It was the second day...

Things were pretty awesome. Carmen and I managed to wake up a sleepy Clara whilst telling each other about our bizarre dreams (Me and Gord Quigley were fighting an evil corporation with spider mecha in mine. It was AWESOME.)

Carmen was very supportive of Clara's sleepiness.

We had a continental breakfast and headed out to the bug, where we repacked and got to it.

Clara had warned us about straight roads going INTO Oregon, but IMHO it was even worse going out.

There was a corner. THAT was pretty awesome.

California was the next big stop...and the state border came without much fanfare. Though shortly after that a woman checked to see if we had any fruit. Us dirty fruit smugglers. Smuggling dirty fruit.

We drove past Mt. Shasta, which (Clara assures me) is large and looks like Mt. Fuji. I would have a picture for you, except it was covered in clouds... so I have to take her word for it and try to get a picture of it on the way back. :3

There was  some road construction

and then a lake (which was also hard to get a picture of...).

By this point, it had really heated up. I'd stripped down to my tanktop and capris and was sitting contentedly in the back snapping pictures. We also drove past a place where they build warships, and I promise to try to get a picture on the way back, but we were on the wrong side of the highway and I couldn't get a clear shot.

San Jose...

Er.

Yes. San Jose. We took the correct exit to switch highways, but obviously didn't exit far enough and drove in circles for a while until Clara was signifigantly irate. I think the crowning glory was when the GPS had us driving all over to get back on route, then told us to make a U-Turn. There are no pictures of this part of the trip, as I think I may have been killed if I had pulled out my camera at that moment.

But we got here!

And took a lovely picture of the view off the back porch:

So anyway, lovely house (hopefully I'll have a tour for you guys one of these days) and I'll have day 3 up on time tonight, so help me.

OMG OMG LOVE AND SMOOCHES.

-Jess

PS: I feel the need to post a crap picture of myself (in the hotel in Oregon) to make up for all the crap pictures I'm posting of my roomates. YAY!
