I dropped by Pasta Zanmai and decided to try some of their specials. It was a bunch of unusual flavours, so I'm just gonna write it up.
To start with, here's the green tea cappucino.
( Err, it's their regular item, not on the special menu XD; )
I had this convo with the waittress where I was like, "What's green tea cappucino? Does it have any coffee in it?" And she was like, "Well, it's green tea. That's a cappucino. It's a green tea cappucino." Eh well, the long and short is that no, it doesn't have coffee in it, and yes, it's like a cappucino, foam, milk and all. With green tea. Hence, green tea cappucino XD
The tea itself is pretty thick, but not bitter; in fact the drink is pre-sweetened lightly.
Main meal:
(I went for the small -- to save room for dessert!)
It's seafoood pesto cream pasta. Usually I imagine pesto as being nearly a salad and cream sauce as carbonara; I didn't think this would work at all, so I was curious. It's basically basil-flavoured cream sauce (with green basil bits still floating in the sauce, in case you forget that basil is green XD ), with some stuff and pasta thrown in. The sauce itself is pretty tasty. The greens are well-cooked. The only thing I have to nitpick is that the ingredients seemed to have been cooked seperately, so there's a bit of disconnect between the sauce and the seafood.
(And yes, there is seafood in there, specifically 2 prawns, some scallops, and sotong rings XD )
And lastly, dessert: cheesecake with green tea ice cream
Cheesecake on the left is the cream cheese kind. On the right, green tea ice cream with some chilled red bean paste (more like sauce?). Under that is a waffle biscuit.
Again, this isn't a combo I thought would work, I gave it the eyeball and ate it dubiously. But strangely enough, the cheesecake brings out the tea-ness of the green tea and the green tea brings out the sourness of the cheesecake. And then occassionally you eat the red bean. And end it with the sweet waffle biscuit.
All in all, a lunch made of odd things, but it's delicious! I would be happy to go back for more.
In other news, if you remember
