A new post! How rash and daring of me!!

Really, I can't tell you how often I've told myself that I ought to use this journal more often for posting, rather than just occasionally lurking about for updates from my f-list. I think it's lovely the way that the average LJ-er shares whatever strikes her fancy, or at least what's newly absorbing her in fandom/life/whatever. This is the funnest ( Read more... )

Well, It's good to see you! :-)

I'm a HUGE Sherlock fan as well -- both because I love SH adaptations and this is the best one yet, and because Steven Moffat is hands down my favorite living writer! (And one of my favorites of all time, too)

Beware of fanfic, though. That has NOT left out all the graphic sex and violence. Ugh. :-(

Well, hello, it's so nice to have made a new friend in my new fandom so soon!!

I'm so very much enjoying V&W--the writing is top quality, and I was so pleased at finding a site so quickly that is specifically dedicated to low-rated, non-slash fanfic.

Don't worry (or at least do it retroactively, if there is such a thing!), I've already learned from my experiences in the Stargate Atlantis fandom to be cautious when choosing fics to read. I definitely prefer to go through a moderated forum like Violin and Watch (or Stargate Gen Rec), where I can find fics suited to my preferences without having to sift through reams of unsuitable material.

...Actually, while we're on the subject, are there any sites you could recommend within the Sherlock fandom that are similar to V&W in their contribution requirements? I definitely would like to read (and encourage!) as wide a range of G/PG authors as possible. And that goes for fan-artists, as well!

Well, I think I sent an invite to "Great Tales" (great-tales.livejournal.com) That's not a Sherlock-specific site, but a lot of us there are Sherlock fans. I think you'll find the "Fandom: Sherlock" is the most used tag. :-) And Sherlock Holmes as well. There's a nice variety there -- I'm the mod, so I'm biased, but I think that's true -- but heavily weighted towards Sherlock.

That and violinandwatch are the only two sites I know of... and I was involved with the creation of both... because I and jaelijn and several others were so frustrated by the paucity of gen Sherlock Holmes fic, in particular...

(Should add that great-tales allows fics up to R, but not for sex, and not for gratuitous violence or language. I know this is a judgement call, but my decision when I started the comm was that I would not allow it to slip into something I'd be ashamed of, no matter the pressure... and I'm not sure that the R tag has ever been used. I've posted stuff in the PG-13 range as have others, but really just because... issues like dementia or murder are not even quite PG in my opinion.)
