Living la vida loca diabetes style...

I went in to the doctor on Monday and was diagnosed as soon as the doctor walked in the door. The good news is that my liver is not that far out of range, my vitimin D levels are being treated medically, and I caught the diabetes early enough that I have not caused any major damage to various organs. They don't have me on any new meds other than ( Read more... )

Ouch on the fingers! It sounds like you are making some awesome changes.

I really need to start tracking again so that I can make sure I am staying in a reasonable limit. I don't see the endocrinologist until the 16th, but I should get be proactive about keeping my carbs low until then. Did they give you that range of 120-125? I know it is different for everyone, but it would be good to have something to shoot for.

Wow. Big news, dear friend! You always have such a way of looking at things positively though. I'm very proud of you for facing this head on and with such a positive approach.

You've inspired me, once again.

I really appreciate the compliment. Especially coming from the person who I draw the biggest amount of inspiration from. I have always found your positive outlook on life and your ability to get through really tough times with grace and candor completely inspirational. :)

I am adjusting well. The food really isn't a problem, since I have decided to approach it like a game or competition with myself (I have a fiercely competitive streak when i want to!) of seeing how well I can control my sugars and still keep my love of really good quality food. The biggest thing will be weight loss and adding exercising back into my repetoire. Right now I am adjusting to the carbs without worrying too much about the calories. I figure that as soon as I have the carb and portion control thing down, I can start looking at the calorie and fat content.

It helps to have so much support from friends!

the pricking the fingers? - I found its easiest for me to do it towards the sides of the pad of my finger. If I do it at the tip, I am so sore for so long....also, try adjusting the needle length. It really does get easier...... the one I have for testing (I am under the exact same Dr. orders too) I can get by with a teesy drop of blood on the tester.

Did you get my post the other day? I tried to post on here but it didnt show...

You might check a recipe book called "Lickty Split" diabetic recipes- it has great tips in there, suggestions and its made with stuff normal people buy...LOL and its GOOD! I love the swiss oats & fruit for breakfast....

just some tips! :)
