Things I have learnt today

  • Taking lecture notes on my eeeeee is better than taking pen-and-paper notes because:
    • My hand doesn't hurt afterwards
    • I take more notes
    • The notes I take are better
    • I'm more inclined to go through them and clean them up afterwards, because:
      • It is possible to clean them up without having to completely rewrite them
    • Cleaning them up means I reread them

Eeee is pretty handy I've found, I've been using my eee to take notes from reading, since I can add the citations as I go along via endnote, and it's small enough to balance and type on my lap while simultaneously clutching a book.

It's slow, (summat I'm doing in my own time rather than in a lecture) but probably quicker in the long term when it comes to writing up and collating refs.

I was delighted to notice yesterday an abundance of power points in the Radcliffe Camera (which will probably be one of my main libraries come dissertation time). I'm going to need to get me some referencing software soon, I think, and then I shall do the same :-)

Do you have access to Microsoft Office Word 2007? (Perhaps via remote access from the Uni?) that has Endnote built into it - and damn handy it is too!

Yes, but not on the eee - it's running Linux. I expect there's an equivalent for Open Office, and if not, there are certainly online options, although that would mean setting up my wireless access, and I'd sort of rather not, to avoid the distraction ;-)
