Oh, there are so many! But I absolutely have to mention Garth Nix's Sabriel, Philip Pullman's The Golden Compass and Laurie Halse Anderson's Speak. The first two are fantasy - Nix's series isn't nearly as well known as Pullman's, but it's excellent - and Speak is an incredible real-world novel about a girl who is silent for a year after a sexual assault (though obviously it's on the very dark side). OH AND the smart and highly enjoyable The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau Banksby E. Lockhart, about a very clever girl who outsmarts the sekrit club of the dudes at her school.

I could kinda do this all day. :)

Ooh yes, Scion & I both loved Nix & Pullman. I hadn't read the others though! *takes notes*

I just downloaded her whole ebook collection in that series when she had it on sale. It'll be nice to both reread & introduce to Scion.
