Back in 1994, in Nirvana's aftermath, major record labels signed every independent, post-punk, or grunge-ish band they could find. For a brief window of time, several truly groundbreaking bands were thrust into prominence. Right on...and the fascinating thing to me is that now the galvanizing force of the internet can narrowfocus a fanbase that makes survival (a little) more viable these days, and garner a band more spotlight than the first time around, i.e. Pixies and Mission of Burma

Hey waj, thanks for the comment! I definitely agree. It's so easy to get information these days, which is great for finding shows, checking out new music, etc. - that definitely helps established bands. I do think it's far more difficult to sift through the vast glut of music to find the new gems, though...
