Pretty Pretty Princesses.

I am looking for movies, preferably princessy movies, that will appeal to a very smart three year old and that do not have a negative gender message. Brad's niece, Mo, and I have watched Enchanted about a squillion times, and while we both love it, I imagine she's going to get bored with it before too terribly long. I'd like to have something ( Read more... )

You show me pics of Sprout and Calvwell and I'll show you pics of Linus and Eddie. Right now, they're both curled up on my bed along with Spooky and Shiz. I am dying of teh cute.

She has that one! She asked me to read it to her for her bedtime story the last time I was at her house, and I loved it, too. :)

Not sure it's quite for a three year old, but I have to mention Ever After, a retelling of the Cinderella story.  Not only does the girl save the prince, but the prince goes a long way toward winning her heart by building her a library.  Plus Leonardo da Vinci is the 'fairy godmother'.

Ever After is fantastic. I remember seeing it in the theater and being completely charmed by it. I've added to the top of the list. Thank you!

I agree with intenselaura about Ever After - it's a fantastic movie, but might be just a squeak too old for a 3-year old. floatyfish has the same ideas I have; Beauty and the Beast, because of her strong intelligent role and she does kind of save the prince at the end. Mulan shows another strong female figure who doesn't need to be saved. And Shrek because of how fun it is.

Excellent. I thought they were great ideas, and I'm glad to have them seconded. :)

Also, and completely unrelated, I've been looking at gorgeous gorgeous scarf patterns this week, and I think I've chosen the yarn for the one I'm making for you. I'm super excited about it. :)

How about Matilda? Might be a little too much for a 3 y/o, but is a great one for later. Roald Dahl was great.

Sweet! Matilda is an awesome book. I've not seen the movie but would love to, so pre-watching will make me happy even if it is a bit much for Mo.

Have you read Dahl's nursery rhyme books? They are hilarious.

Also, I have not forgotten your movies. I've just been beaten with the poverty stick, but I hope to send them to you soon, along with some small Portland presents that I've had my eye on for you. :)

I will have to obtain the nursery rhymes, as I have not seen them. I'm still trying to find my copy of his Omnibus, all his adult themed short stories, to no avail. Perhaps when bookshelves get built and I commit unboxening of the books, it will show up again.

Not to worry, I understand the poverty stick making smacky noises- the offer is still there if you would like some paypal'd assistance.

Ooh, I haven't read the short stories. I'll have to look for them. The nursery rhymes are also not so much for the kids, although most of them aren't "oh god no don't read that to the children!" but rather stuff that will go right over the kids' heads.

I'm torn on the offer. I'd like to be able to not make you pay ransom to get your movies back, but I'd also like you to actually get them back. Argh.
