This post is largely going to be brainstorming for my Choice Script game tentatively titled Hero of Silvergate. My inspiration for this game is the Wizards, Warriors & You series of CYOA style game books. Definitely embrace that limit of choice. You might even have more options open as you go on, letting folks get to experience and enjoy their first few. Releasing them as you go along gives them novelty they might not have if it was just all on the menu to start.

Agreed. Having all 9 of 9 spells/weapons available is kind of like shooting fish in a barrel; you're never going to have much of a dilemma when facing a challenge. But I wonder if having a choice of 5 of 9 spells/weapons with an option of opening up one or two more down the road might not be an option (I'm blue-skying here, since I have no frame of reference either for what you're doing or what the standard template has been ( ... )
