Am I being unreasonable?

Dec 02, 2005 14:30

Today I had the unpleasant experience of seeing my daughter (2 and a half years old) chased into a corner by two older children at her daycare (one supposedly her friend there) and kicked whilst she was on her knees because apparently they didn't want to play with her ( Read more... )

I think you need to discuss this with the daycare's supervisor and make it clear what you consider to be the problem, but no, I don't think you're being at all unreasonable.

They seem to think that remonstrating the boys at the time and then sending them to play outside (which was what the boys wanted) was sufficient. I have to say that they did apparently talk to one of the boys later but they don't seem to have talked to the other one and it was the second one that was the more vicious of the two. I'm still not happy about the whole and will be looking elsewhere for a place where this sort of thing is less likely to occur in the first place and be better dealt with ( ... )

I don't think you are being unreasonable, and neither did my mother when I asked her.
She said she would be very concerned about this kind of thing going on at a daycare, and that violent behaviour should be dealt with more seriously.

I agree with Beast, that you should discuss your concerns with the staff as an initial step.

I'd say entirely reasonable. Children who don't learn that that kind of behaviour is unacceptable at that age go on to continue being bullies as they grow older.

No I don't think you are unreasonable, but you should talk to the daycare first. (mum agrees)

And completely unrelated I would like to get some contact details from you

I do believe the behaviour you experienced yesterday was inappropriate. Children of this age group do tend to display inappropriate behaviours as they learn and develop friendships and relationships with their peers. Unfortunately this behaviour can be unacceptable but it is not uncommon ( ... )

Another thing to consider here is how did your daugther react to the incident? Is she stressed about returning to daycare? Is she scared of these boys? Is she talking about the incident?

The incident may have been more traumatic for you as a parent then for your child.

If your child is displaying negative feelings or is feeling very emotional about attending the daycare then I would consider moving her. I would (as already stated) talk with the teachers involved. This way the teacher will be aware and able to understand your concerns.
