I still haven't played it yet, because I still haven't get windows... hehe I guess that's not a bad thing. I've heard that John Carmack is a sick little mofo, but I guess what they have set out to acheive is an interpretation of hell, and by the sounds of it, they have done it well.

You're not a consumer whore for supporting the hard work of developers. :-P The radiosity takes a lot of tweaking to see in full effect, by the way. I had to use a combination of Doom 3 internal gamma (r_gamma) + brightness + contrast to get a nice balance. But I'm running a GeForce 4 Ti, and my shadows begin black and fade nicely. No blurring (no UltraShadow II), but still, it looks damn nice once you get it right.
Also, it's easy to justify the difference in lighting conditions. *cough DEMONIC INVASION cough cough*

"Comsumer Whore" is a reference to the cartoon "Rejected". (Go to google and search for 'rejected.wmv' its there somewhere.
I've heard that the gamma can default a little low in Doom 3. I think you should be a little careful saying things like "The radiosity takes a lot of tweaking to see in full effect" If a radiosity based lightmap is the basis of Doom 3's lighting engine (and I'm not saying it is because I dont know) then your not really going ot be able to alter the percentage that the radiosity map affects the level lighting. Adjusting your Gamma and contrast will just make everything brighter and more washed out, it wont actually make a difference to the way that the light is calculated in the game.
You can justifty anything, but that doesnt mean that people will always agree with you. I think the shadows are overdone, you dont think they are, its all just opinion. As I said before I havnt even played through the whole thing so it might change later on.
