Post Meeting Depression.

Sep 16, 2004 20:41

I made a fatal mistake in the last couple of days. I was told that we were having a meeting to discuss the problems that we are having at work with Senior management and that they were trying to fix the problems. This statement was entirely true. However I let optimism get the better of me and assumed that they would be putting in some sort of ( Read more... )

Dude that seriously sucks. What you have said doesn't seem to address the actual problems at all.

The sad thing is the situation is not yet so dire that it cannot be fixed. It does, however, need some drastic changes and FTH positions will not fix the problem. I also understand why they are going to drop the hours, but that too is a shafting that doesn't work to the advantage of employees. I would say morale was going to drop more, but I don't think it could be much lower. Hence you are correct and the exodus will continue.

It's a shame.

Indeed there was much sugar coating and listening, but not sure that positive change will be the result. I doubt that new rosters, new people, or even a sprinkling of FTH will address process problems. Communication is a big key to what is going on, and much that impacts on these issues lies outside the immediate environment.

In the end it all just confirms what we knew all along, they are looking after their own concearns and dont care about us. They are not interested in giving us more cash despite the fact that we have never received a pay rise. They are not interested in giving us permenant jobs, just in stopping people from leaving quite so quickly and reducing the cost of employment.

I naievely thought they might actually have been about to give us some recognition of what we do, a pay rise, I mean they can give us crappy little awards and pat us on the back all they want but in the end the quality of work as a casual is determined entirely by how much your payed. There are no holidays or sick days, training or side benefits, just the one reward for time given. And apparently our time is worth the same now as when we had half as many calls to answer and only had to know half as many clients.

I think most people here can do better, and I expect them to.

I'm not sure the whole full-time thing is really that important. I didn't leave because I wasn't full time, and I didn't leave because of pay. I left because the work became WAY too much (especially in relation to the pay), and it was done is SUCH a shoddy way as to make me and my fellow workers seem incompetent. That is the reason morale is so low, pure and simple - nobody likes feeling or appearing stupid. And we did.

Somehow in all this everyone seems to be missing the human aspect.
