G & S got married this weekend, after 8 years of courtship, almost 3/4 of that long distance. This is the second wedding involving one of my Oxford friends - the first took place 2 years ago, and they now have a beautiful (albeit slightly grouchy on Sat mornings) baby boy. Yeah, it's quite an uncommon section to choose for a wedding - but it's quite clear why they chose it in light of their very long courtship. :)

Ooh, maybe I'll go see if there are sermon mp3s or transcripts available. Ecclesiastes is quite interesting in that it's written by Solomon too, and he's such a messed up character. Divinely blessed with wisdom, rich beyond imaginings, yet he lets his wives step over him and is too weak to stop them from building idols. And it is he who says that all is meaningless, and can sound quite bitter at times when imparting wisdom on life. Quite an intriguing book.

bible commentators think that Solomon wrote Song of Solomon first as a wide eyed young man, Proverbs as an experienced wise middle aged man, and Ecclesiastes as a wise old man looking back at his whole life and warning young people from his experience
