As you come into the world Triv refers to as "her place", the first thing you notice is the brilliance of the sea far below you. You are standing on a bluff overlooking what appears to be the Aegean, above a sloping path that leads down to the sea. There are a few smudges on the horizon which might be other islands.
The sky is as brilliant as the sea, a vivid blue with white clouds dotted upon it here and there. The air is salty but clean, free of any trace of pollution or hydrocarbons, and the temperature is pleasantly warm.
Turning, you can see a sprawling complex of marble buildings thrown rather haphazardly together further up the slope of the bluff, and beyond that a forest skirting around the base of a small mountain. The complex is the only sign of human life visible.
The sound of waves is a faint, comforting background murmur to the crying of gulls and the sounds of animals going about their lives.
