Oh wow! That is so wonderful. Congratulations! :) I'm in awe of anyone who manages to actually finish a novel in any draft, especially since I can barely move mine. For some reason, I just don't feel comfortable writing in it for very long and then I have to switch back to fanfiction.

I love my world, but there are times when I just don't want to look at it either. Fanfics keep clamouring for my attention, but I'm not yet disciplined enough to write for long stretches of time on a regular basis. I must rectify this.

Have you ever tried NaNoWriMo? People from all walks of life do it every year, including full-time workers, so I'm sure you could at least give it a shot. If the novel doesn't appeal, you could write a fanfic, and if you just want to edit a complete draft, you could do Camp in July. :D Just suggestions. You don't have to do it if you're not comfortable.

Yeah, there's something so compelling about writing for already established characters.

I've never liked how NaNoWriMo emphasizes quantity over quality. ;) It doesn't really appeal to me. Thanks, though!

As far as writing something every day for a challenge, I actually did that in November, writing for 31_days instead of NaNoWriMo. I've done 31_days' month-long theme sets a couple of other times too. They're great fun, when you hit upon a theme set with just the right amount of inspiration. :) Currently I'm doing an entire table for 100songs. Only forty more to go! I picked it up as soon as I finished my challenge in November.

NaNoWriMo's focus is on getting that infernal first draft written already! For someone like me, who is a terrible perfectionist and not very disciplined, writing without fiddling too much is a challenge. In the past, I wrote scenes out of order and never had a coherent draft. Then I did Camp last year and actually wrote 50k for the book that had been swirling in my head for eight years without being written. I then proceeded to procrastinate about finishing that draft for eight months until April, when I pounded out the second half of the novel. I now have a finished draft that wouldn't have existed if NaNo hadn't been there to give me a deadline and a goal to reach. I should probably set deadlines for myself on a regular basis, but it's harder to stick to them when you don't have a host of others making you accountable to do so. And the forums are fun. :D ( ... )
