Bought scales. They instantly added a stone on to me frm 3 weeks ago, so either they're broken or I'm about to die explosively. Since a body builder gauged that I'd lost weight since I'd last seen him yesterday (about the same period of time) I figure the scales are to blame. Waste of £8 ( Read more... )

(to state the obvious) Is the scale just not zeroed right?

Best of luck in your efforts! Let me know if there's anything I can do to help from 5000+ miles away!

It was acting a bit funny, even after zeroing, finally settling at 18.5 stone (257lb). It did kind of sort itself out, and really, as long as its consistent that'll do.

I may have added muscle bulk while hiking about in AZ which could explain it, which combined with all the ice cream could easily make for weight gain, and it went down substantially after I, erm, got rid of some stuff. That I'd previously eaten. Which I believe I'd just done at the last weigh in, so that's consistent.

Bah, onwards and upwards! I mean downwards!

If I may?

Don't start tracking individual chocolates! You're just going to beat yourself up over it. It's good to know approximately what's going in each day, but it's much better to know what's going on each month. I'm losing weight right now, and had Nandos at the weekend and fish and chip yesterday.

Same with weighing yourself. Don't do that often, or you'll obsess over weight loss/gain that's due to, uh, womanly things, or particularly hot days where you drank a lot of water.

Gym helps, though.

Oh, not so as to make myself paranoid youunderstand. its less than 50 calories, and at the point I'd made that post I was actually well under the daily calorie intake I'm supposed to aim for.

Weighing is due to be a weekly affair, once I can get some sort of starting point. Womanly things *giggle*

And gym, well too expensive - my aim is to continue to walk to work and back every day, supplimented by climbing Arthur's Seat on days when I don't have specific other walking plans. My excuse? I have a kite.

I've a great gym one minute's walk from the flat. I didn't expect to enjoy in in the slightest, but the huge range of machines means I can comprehensively exhaust/injure myself. Coz I've always walked a lot, but that wasn't helping so much.

Weekly weighs are ok. I've heard one good technique is to track overall loss rather than week-to-week loss. So 15lbs, rather than 2lbs this week, 3 the next. Again with the paranoia.

Very good luck with the whole project. Keep us informed? =)
