If you've been keeping track of my comings and going via Facebook, then you know that Liza and I went to Target yesterday and spent the remainder of the rather huge gift card given to us by her grandparents. You know you're getting old when you spend more gift money on things like Clorox wipes and bath mats than actual entertainment, but that's ( Read more... )

I think the beard would look great if trimmed to a goatee. Honest, it's not bad at all. I know beards.

Too late! As of yesterday afternoon, I am clean-shaven.

Back in the mid-90's (after I got out of the navy), I tried a couple of times to grow a goatee and it never really worked for me. Besides, for the most part, I think the goatee look is a bit dated - but not for you! You make it work, my friend.

Thanks for your advice to follicly challenged. I knew I could count on your input.

I only make it work because I have no choice. Clean-shaven, I look like a lesbian. Mustache makes me look like a pervert. Beard is nice, but is too scratchy for all-the time. The goatee really brings my face together.

I am DESPERATELY hoping that no one else thinks the goatee is dated. The explosion of goatees in the mid-90s made my life immeasurably better.

Are you referring to that "truckstop mustache" look you briefly attempted? Yeah, Kiddie Toucher City. I'm glad that didn't last.

Goatees seem to be alive and well among professional baseball players, if that helps.

So sad... lizabean79 January 2 2009, 21:00:15 UTC
The 4th book is majorly disappointing. I am going to finish it, because I have enough residual character investment from the 1st three to do it, but it will be a bit labor intensive.

Let's be clear, these were never on the level of my beloved HP - the world that JK creates, to me, is a real and wonderful place - but they were a nice distraction. Who doesn't love an angsty teenage love story as they quickly approach the end of their 20's? This 4th installment, though, I have to say...I agree with the 1-star reviews on Amazon, and they ain't pretty.

LOVE that film! I especially like it when Elasta-girl, piloting the plane, says "India Gulf niner nine" which is a slay reference to Brad Bird's previous (wonderful) film The Iron Giant.

Coltrane's one of my few remaining old-school jazz guys that I still want to hear pretty much anything from. I don't get sick of him. The others I pick and choose, Coltrane it seems like everything is important to me. I just got the two Prestige boxes that are pulled from that big 16-disc set or whatever it is, and I'm loving it. Anyway, if you want what is probably the absolute, ultimately high-fidelity Blue Train experience, head over to Acoustic Sounds for the brand new hybrid SACD that literally just came out. I can't even exploit the SACD layer and I'm loving the incredible new mastering on the regular CD layer - it will never, ever get better than this in the digital realm. Yes, it is worth every penny of the $30.
